ESF (Tsing Yi)

My son born in feb 06 and i want to send him to the int'l kinder, can anyone share the infomation about the esf (tsing yi) and when should i apply. I actually check from the web site of this school and the application date of this school is from 1 of oct until the end of oct each year, so if i send the form on april will they still consider my case. We usually speak cantonese to my son, so i hope he can have better english environment in school, that's the reason why i want to send him to the int'l kinder, however i heard that there are mainly chinese students study in the tsing yi ESF, is that true, so can my son still learn more english in this school, pls give me advice. thanks a lot...

Even you sent the letter earlier, you have no advantage or priority as they mentioned.
And you may send once again on October, to remind them you are doing what they've requested. It is all up to you.

i wonder it can tell significant improve of english level in kindergarten ..........
but when in P1 or Y1-2, you'll really amaze how they learn that fast in reading and writing both. ( of course include conversation)

y6baba thanks for your reply. As  i know this kindergarten has no interview, so is it easy to get into the school. Also if the shcool don't gurantee all the students can enter to esf primary, where can they go (local school or other int'l primary school) thanks...

Can anyone share the English standard of the kid after completing K1 in the ESF (Tsing Yi)?  Or does it take 2 years to train them speaking in fluent English?

Sorry for my later reply.
Yes, it is only like lucky draw to get the seat and
all depends on how many non-priority candidates apply.
From the past information I heard, it was less than about 10% student can't pass the interview or not plan
to study in ESF Primary. Where they go is not certain, some said they are excepted by other private or Gov. aided school and also not bad.
Recently, the gov. edu. policy and ESF's seat availability may change years by years very quick. Let's wait and see what surprise we get later.

The story I quoted is not my kid but my close friend's daughter. She is just 5.5 years old and her reading level is up to level 6 now. She is study in ESF since kinder. And my kid will go to ESF in the coming term.

I think my friend try to let me understand his/her daughter can read more advance than her year.
(may be she can read Y6 section story book instead of Y1 or 2)
Did ESF Primary School library divided books by different level for student to borrow?
May be you should know more than I do about the level of reading in ESF.

Thank you for the information.

Firstly, I still have no idea of the reading level standard of ESF primary. Anyway, my friends are really happy of her daughter's performance and the little girl is happy. She is below standard may be due she was studied in ESF kinder as you said the poorest quality of teaching.

You are the first one I heard to comment about ESF kinder in this way, I'm not surprise. Most of the other said they don't teach.

Besides, what should I check with my friend?

My girl is studying K1 now.  I have many bad experiences about the school. The teachers are not as good as before (few years ago) after they changed the principal.  That's what I heard from a lot of mothers. The teachers are not caring same as the principle.  Some K2 mothers hv withdrawal from school after the outbreak. The school not allow students to wear mask.  Many parents are strongly disagree with this policy. But they don't care. They don't care your kid is sick or not.

Good news is the principle retired this year and  a new one will come. Hope she is good.

I went to the orientation and the existing principle said the new principle was her student many years ago......so their style will be very much the same.

I agree that there are some points which are not as good as other school e.g. class size is too big, teachers allow student speak in cantonese.....

At least, it's a ticket to the primary school....higher chance.
