Hi fate,
Sorry, mamino.1,
My experience may disappoint many HK parents because my wife and I did NOT send our boys to study abroad - we went with them.
My wife said to me one day while us in HK,
'We should find a less stressful place to have a child.'
So we left HK and moved to UK.
Then, my wife said to me one day,
'We should find a less expansive place to have a 2nd child.'
So we left UK and moved to New Zealand with our elder boy.
Then, yes, now you know the pattern.
My wife said to me one day,
'We should find a warmer place to live.'
So we left NZ and moved to Australia.
Finally, we both said one day,
'We should try the grammar schools in UK'
So, we then 'home school' our elder boy.
Helped him to prepare Three UK's 11+.
He got in the best one - so we returned UK in 2010.
Since we visit HK during school holidays every year.
(This year we are in HK in late July-Mid Aug.)
Perhaps it's better for us to share while us in HK.
I failed so many times, so badly in Life that I know...
What are the Most Important things to FOCUS.

Good Luck to your child.
Good Luck to every parent in HK.
Remember : Be KIND then everything comes to you.
Best wishes
