Hi scso,

I visited the school on my (HK) friend's behalf back in Oct 2011, because it's in Sidmouth - about 18 minutes drive from where I lived.

The then Headmistress, Anglea Parry-Davies, gave my wife and I a school tour. I wasn't too impressed by what we had seen. (i.e. lack of facilities, boarding not very well organised etc.)

You may wish to start a thread in the following UK link, and see if any existing St. John's parents would address your concerns,

(A quick check, http://schoolguide.co.uk/schools/st-johnss-international-school)

Good Luck.

Sorry, mamino.1,

I do NOT know anything about Reed's school though you can have a look of 2 inspection reports relating to the school,

It's a Fact : noone knows for sure if a particular school suits a particular child UNTIL that child has ACTUALLY spent 2 terms in that school.

(Our top 1% school had a mother fighting so hard to get her girl in, i.e. made an appeal, but only left after her girl was in the school for 1 term)

Isn't is a also Fact of life : a perfect man + a perfect woman does NOT necessary = a perfect marriage?

The same logic should be applied when selecting a school : NOT about the best case scenario but 'the worst case scenario' (i.e. has a parent got a realistic expectation of a school, and a Plan B if things do NOT work out as first expected?)

Good luck.

Hi fate,
Thanks for your reply. I would discuss with my dd. Since I have no experience in sending kids to study abroad, there are a lot of things I would like to consult your comment and would like you to share your experience. Thank you.

Hi fate,

Sorry, mamino.1,

My experience may disappoint many HK parents because my wife and I did NOT send our boys to study abroad - we went with them.

My wife said to me one day while us in HK,
'We should find a less stressful place to have a child.'
So we left HK and moved to UK.

Then, my wife said to me one day,
'We should find a less expansive place to have a 2nd child.'
So we left UK and moved to New Zealand with our elder boy.

Then, yes, now you know the pattern.
My wife said to me one day,
'We should find a warmer place to live.'

So we left NZ and moved to Australia.
Finally, we both said one day,
'We should try the grammar schools in UK'

So, we then 'home school' our elder boy.
Helped him to prepare Three UK's 11+.
He got in the best one - so we returned UK in 2010.

Since we visit HK during school holidays every year.
(This year we are in HK in late July-Mid Aug.)
Perhaps it's better for us to share while us in HK.

I failed so many times, so badly in Life that I know...
What are the Most Important things to FOCUS.
(e.g. What Skills a child should have at different stages)

Good Luck to your child.
Good Luck to every parent in HK.
Remember : Be KIND then everything comes to you.

Best wishes
