An article in SCMP today quotes "More than 70 per cent of applicants to international schools have ... As I had expressed earlier in another post, due to historical reasons, there are at least 1 million Hongkongers who have foreign citizenship, out of a total population of 7 million. Many of these foreign Hongkongers would like to send their kids to international schools, as well as some local Hongkongers who have no confidence in the local education system and would like to do the same.
So unless 1 in every 7 schools in Hongkong is an international school, there simply won't be enough places to go round. Currently there are around 1100 schools in Hongkong, out of which 50 are international schools, when there should be at least 150 of them (1/7 of 1100).
Of course, the figure of 1 million Hongkongers with foreign citizenship is only a personal guess, but I doubt if that would be far from the actual figure.
