Which school is better, Choi Kai Yau or Renaissance College?

Hi parents,

Please share your views about these two schools for the secondary section. Which one is better? If you are to make a choice for the secondary school, what will it be? Any opinions, advice or comments are welcome. Thank you.

It really depends what you are looking for? RC runs the IB Middle Years Programme but CKY will go for IGCSE exams at Year 10. RC is managed by western people but CKY is under leadership of local principal. RC's students are from many nationalities, but CKY has nearly 100% local students. The learning environment is very different!

May I know if you kid got the offers from both of the caption schools?

Choi Kai Yau is a DSS school and RC is an international school. They are running  two different systems.
Think twice before making the decision.

Both schools are actually called private independent school, they got support (land, money) from government to found the schools but are not getting any money from government anymore.  So in a way you can say CKY's fee is relative cheaper as PLK is funding it.  Of course RC has better campus and facilities.  CKY has 100% local students, maybe, but only less than 90% are Chinese local.  Rest mainly Indian/Pakistan locals.  On other hand RC is much less international than other ESF schools.  Both are relatively new schools, so hard to tell their quality, so far I think they are both doing well.

To me, most CKY students looked Chinese. There's always a few exceptions in every class, both in primary and secondary streams.

Actually, CKY is a private independent school. Land and building fee provided by the government. (Only 200 million something, same as one normal aided primary school and one secondary school, but the actual building fee for CKY was about 400 million) PLK only loaned money to make up the balance. CKY needs to return.

Readerecat: CKY has 100% local students, maybe, but only less than 90% are Chinese local. Rest mainly Indian/Pakistan locals.

Actually only I or 2 Westerns and 1 or 2 South Asians (Indian/Pakistan)

我家姐個女晌RC讀year 5.  佢英文水平非常非常之好, 中文當然弱d, 但都見得人. ESF run既 international school 中文算ok架!  覺得佢既社交圈子闊d, 好多半唐番, 鬼仔鬼妹朋友, 平時課外活動學既都唔係為左 "谷行佢", 而係真係游水, 踢波, 學法文之類, 真係有興趣, 有樂趣.  體現何謂 "求學不是求分數".  家姐計劃會送佢去外國升學, 唔怕佢唔識溝通, 可以放心d.  CKY 就未能提供介紹 lu, sorry.   不過就有朋友晌陳守仁讀, if CKY is similar to TSL, 學習氣氛係冇傳統學校咁死板咁谷既.  但到頭來真係要視乎家長自己ge 計劃同長遠安排.

CKY係private independent school.  我成日錯覺當左佢係直資, 唔好意思.  以前有兩個朋友仔女讀CKY, 不過後來佢地轉左去INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL. 如要中文好Ｄ＝＞ＣＫＹ,　要國際學校得來有機會多接觸中文＝＞ＲＣ.  唔知你的要求同埋你仔女情況，好難話邊間好Ｄ, 最緊要岩自己.

I've already applied for Year 6 (CKY); that's why I wanna learn more about this school. But the chance is slim...My child said the insert student exams were difficult.
Perhaps I'll try again next year.

Yes, one thing I like best about RC is their focus on Chinese language, it definitely cannot be matched with the local school. I don't know much about the Chinese programme at other IS, but I am quite satisfy with my son's Chinese, he likes doing the Chinese homework.

I think it depends on whïch school suits your kid most.  CKY is a local school using a non- conventional curriculum; while RC is an international school (ESF, but private school).  You should access how well your kid will flourish in each environment, or what you want your kid to gain in his/her secondary school year.

我當年都係替女女報考CKY 和 RC，慶幸地2間都收左，最後我選擇了 RC 。

最近看過一份報導，CKY最新一屆公開考的成績與SIS叮噹碼頭。

雖然話係LS，又係新校，但都算係多個選擇。不過，好多人報，吳一定易考過SIS。

至於RC，有朋友話d畢業生會去Open U升學，我吳知而家係米吳同，不過好似就麻麻。
