My baby is only 8 months ago but I want to know more on this school. Btw is your kid studying in other IS or local school? Why do u want switch to CIS?

My boy is studying in a local school. The pressure is too high in the local school and I think it does not worth it to spend so much efforts on studying.  I want him to have a balanced development.  We applied CIS and hope for a change.

I don't know if u guys are aware of CIS's new policy - all students have to spend a year in its new Hangzhou campus in grade 9 or 10 (don't remember exactly).

I like CIS but I just can't see how I can let my kid out of my sight at such young age. I didn't apply CIS...

I actually thought their Hangzhou campus was a good idea.  In lieu of sending your child abroad, they actually get experience taking care of themselves and then will be back in a year to do their IBDP.  Will be interesting to see how it works out in implementation.

If I am willing to let my kid out of my sight at 14, I may just send her to local primary school and then boarding school overseas. That could be cheaper and easier.

Guess major difference is it will be for one year as opposed to rest of his life!  If a child is studying abroad, you won't really have a chance to live under the same roof again ..... ever ....

Don't worry, if you will send your kid to study abroad in any event, actually, I think it's better to let your kid being guided by the school instead of letting him taking care himself without any guardian. In fact aged 14 is already matured and could take this challenge especially those kids from IS than local schools.

So how do you manage your kid to such change? It's really a different curriculum. Isn't it true that it's really difficult to get in CIS if you don't start from reception years? Cuz I want to apply P1 only. So when should I apply?

For my boy, I think he will be happy to the changes as his life will be much easier, less pressure, less drill on exercises, less dictations, etc.  Instead, I am more concerned about parents.  We have to handle the increased flexibility to our boy probably resulting in his not as good acadmic results in early years after change.  In the long run, I guess he will have more interest in studying than he is now.  Hopefully, desire to study hard will come from bottom of his heart.  He will learn to love studying. It is our aim.

If you want to apply, and Chinese is not a concern, you may apply to the reception year which is easier.

Are you applying or on waiting list? So far for the perception from most of the patents is that it is really difficult for the kids to switch from local schools to IS especially the gap in English language. So how do you manage your boy's language skill? I am not sure if I will apply its reception year cuz I am not sure if my Bb fits the IS so I may prefer to apply its primary.

The English standard of my boy is ok.  Given one year or two, he will have engough time to catch up.  What worry me more is flexibility of IS where students smoke and in some cases even taking drugs.

Yes that's right you may need pay more attention on his peer group. But I believe the students ' attitude is ok in CIS. In reality no matter the kids studying in IS or LS, there are always bad kids around. We can't control it

Agree.  We can only defer the problem but kids have to face it themselves one day.  In IS parents put more attention on kid's behaviour, but we put more effort on studying in LS.  There is no pain-free (maybe better use care-free) option.
