I need to correct my info regarding CIS above. The debentures are still transferable, sort of. After the school announced recalling all debentures some years ago, many holders were disgruntled, facing millions in losses. Then the school agreed as a compromise that the debentures to have a remaining shelf live of 10 years (from purchase date?), then redeemed at par.
So you can still buy CIS debentures in secondary market, but they will having different shelf lives, will kind of depreciate with time. As i heard those with 5 years remaining quoting at $3m +, and those with 2 years remaining at $2m +. Very expensive indeed. You pay $2m for the 2 years, and if couldn't get in, then a few months had past you lost few hundred K at least!
But still as before, school will vet background of tranferee and they prefer listed companies or very big or prominent MNCs. Most BK parents wouldn't qualify. |
