英基CEO籲港府 反思外地生教育 盼虎爸虎媽 給子女成長自由

英基學校協會行政總裁杜茵妮在新學年，將返回英國，享受退休生活。

已屆65歲退休之齡的英基學校協會行政總裁杜茵妮，卸任在即。來港工作近10年的她慨歎，政府多年來未正視非本地學生教育需要。撤銷英基資助一事亦揭開背後連串問題，籲政府要反思非本地生的教育方向。

她又指，本港有不少「虎爸虎媽」，過分要求子女成材，呼籲父母給回子女成長的自由，並真正聆聽他們的需要。

杜茵妮曾在英國任職中學教師及副校長逾10年、亦曾擔任英國政府教育部門多個高級職位。她於05年毅然放棄在英國建立多年的事業，來港展開另一段教育事業里程。豈料甫一上場，便要面對備受外界抨擊的英基管理及財政問題、以及政府有意取消對該校每年約3億元的資助，學費面臨大幅上漲的危機。

抗爭8年 致函政府促勿撤資

回憶歷年經歷，杜茵妮慨歎：「撤資一事，真的是一條相當漫長的路！」她上場前夕，審計署發表報告，狠批英基管理不善及財政問題，建議政府盡快檢討對英基資助安排。

對於資助金額隨時不保，她坦言，多年間她不斷向政府寫信，證明英基受資助的歷史價值、以及保障非本地生的教育需要等；其間政府雖曾短暫認同過某些論述，惟不久後又失去當局支持。

政府在2011年提出考慮直接取消資助，但遭校方及不少中產家長反對，校方與政府爭持不下，關係更一度僵持，直至今年6月，雙方終達成共識，由16年起政府分13年逐步撤銷資助。對於這結果，杜坦言：「是失望的，但我們覺得不能在糾纏下去了！」

撤資前後的「抗爭」8年，杜感慨事件引起社會關注非本地學生的教育需要，但政府彷彿一直未有正視問題：「香港被稱為亞洲國際大都會，到底非本地學生應受甚麼樣的教育，是他們要面對的一大問題！」

父母深夜迫子女練琴 感難過

另外，作為教育工作者，面對本港不少「虎爸虎媽」對名校有情意結，又過度管教子女，她表示，曾見過有父母在晚上11時，仍要求子女練習小提琴，情況令她難過，她呼籲家長：「要明白，未必個個人也可以讀醫科，最重要是給子女成長的自由，找出他們真正的興趣！」

來港工作近十年，在將來臨的新學年，杜茵妮將返回英國，享受退休生活。

Yep, many Hongkong parents are sending their children to internationals schools with a local school mindset.

But then, who can blame them? They ARE local people, for them, living abroad could well be like serving prison sentence (remember the term 移民監?). If they are going to stick around Hongkong for most if not all of their lives, they HAVE TO go along with the kind of society which Hongkong is. Ever wondered why people only boast about their children going to medical and law schools but seldom mention any other profession?

I think the mind set of local parents in international schools is logical. Most of them are middle-class with probably professional or up to professional background. They have expectation for their kids no matter high or low. Striving for excellence is a merit in whatever education system. Maybe a bit 'tiger dad' or 'tiger mum', but to survive in highly competitive city like HK, it seems completely normal.

Really?? I only know local parents who do that, and it may be two local KGs, or one local plus one int'l KG so that the child can get the best of both worlds!

Well said and they are the largest population in many Int'l schools
Feeling weird every time hearing parents complaining not enough homework/ projects...

讀ESF or 其它 int'l kinddy + 讀 local kinddy 未必係 tiger parent, 有時係 prepare for the worst.  因為讀佢嘅 kinddy 居然連 interview 都未必有，有 interview 又未必收，考吾到int'l 小學就一無所有！

反之考到 ESF 小學 嘅家長，我又無咩聽過投訴無功課，有投訴嘅一群，好多讀完 year 1 就轉返出去 local 讀一年班。

但課外額外補習嘅，又真係好多。

I completely agree that students have many choices if their parents are open-minded and can support the education expenses.

SPCC is selective while ESF is non-selective. Cannot compare directly. My daughter 's school had average IB score 41 last year. but it is not the best IB school.

SPCC only have 30+ students but ESF have 150 students on each school.
If u know statistics then u know who has better results.
