Dear XXXXX
We’re proposing to transfer your accounts, products and services to a new part of our bank HSBC UK (HSBC UK Bank plc).
You shouldn’t notice any change to your accounts, products, services or relationship with us. However, if we’ve had to make changes to your accounts, we’ll have written to you separately detailing how you’re affected.
Why are we making this change?
After the global economic crisis, the UK Government put new rules in place and we now have to separate or ring-fence our retail banking operations from our wholesale and investment divisions. We’re creating HSBC UK for our retail and most of our commercial banking customers. This is simply a new legal entity which ensures we meet the new banking rules.
What happens next?
We need the approval of the High Court before we can transfer your accounts, products and services from ‘HSBC Bank plc’ to ‘HSBC UK Bank plc’. We’ll be attending a hearing at the High Court on
21 and 22 May 2018 to approve the transfer. If the transfer is approved, the scheduled transfer date is expected to be
1 July 2018.
What does this mean for me?
To find out what this means, visit our website – hsbc.co.uk/ringfencedbank where you will find a Scheme Report which sets out an independent analysis of the transfer, together with a summary of the Scheme Report and a customer guide which provides more information.
The website will also help you to understand if the transfer may adversely affect you and if so the further steps you may wish to take, including how to make a written statement to the High Court if you should choose to do so. Written statements should be received by the High Court, and served on the Prudential Regulation Authority, by 27 April 2018.
If you miss this date the High Court may take this into account when considering your written statement. Detailed guidance on the process for making written statements is on the website or is available from us in hard copy free of charge. Details about the progress of the transfer, including any changes in the court dates, will also be posted on the website.
If you still have any questions or concerns after visiting our website, please:
• call us on 0800 085 2491* or dial the international number +44 (0)1753 907300* – you will need your unique reference number shown in the top right hand corner of this letter; or
• write to us at: Ring-fencing Transfer Scheme, HSBC, 8 Canada Square, London, E14 5HQ
If you’re unable to access the website or require a large text or braille version of this letter please ask and we will be happy to help.
* Lines are open 8am – 10pm Including Bank Holidays
Yours sincerely,
Your HSBC Banking Team
