Yes.  Very difficult.  They don't even have enough Pre-reception spots for siblings of current students.

You should attend their school tour if u r interested.

You can only buy debenture after being admitted.  This is my understanding.  Their pre-reception intake is very small, only 40.  Most of the seats go to teachers' kids, siblings and related parties, even siblings got rejected.  Better chance to apply reception.

Based on my experience, unless you have some kind of close connection with the people in CDNIS otherwise the chance is very very slim.  My daughter were on the waitlist for pre reception and reception but still cannot get in.😭

Yes this is the same situation i heard on cdnis, relationship is the key. But not talking about sibling or passport holder , so basically interview for performance test is just waste of time.

My son just got in, no relationship, just regular reference letters from current teachers, no sibling. Canadian passport holder yes (but there are 300,000 Cdn passport holders in HK according to SCMP). He got an Excellent on his interview performance, so no, the assessment is not a waste of time. Please respect those who prepared very hard for the interviews. He tried last year and failed (okay he threw up 10 minutes before the interview at the time), so I reviewed the mistakes and tried again this year. A lot of hard work has been put into it since birth, no strings pulling at all.

My daughter graduating this year, highly recommend the school, no regret, I am so glad I pull her out from local school, my daughter is happy from day one, she just receive offer from her first choice University.  Only thing is no parking during parents conference day and during other school event happenings, but I am ok with that tho, we love CDNIS because we parents and kids feel family (hope helps :) )

To be fair, from what i gathered lately, close connection does help at one point:

Since space is limited but there's a massive number of applicants, and they categorize kids according to Excellent / Good / Fair / Poor, this is basically what will happen--

Kids whose performance are Fair / Poor will get the rejection letter.
Kids whose performance are Excellent will get accepted (given there is less Excellent kids then there is space available)
Kids whose performance is Good will get either accepted or wait listed.

Since there's usually more "Good" kids then there are spaces available, people will some sort of connection does get to queue ahead of kids without them (but pure connection with kids performing Fair/Poorly will do nothing). Even when my son scored Excellent, the admin was didn't dare to tell me my son definitely got a spot before the Principal 'screen' through and allot placement (i called ahead to find out how my kid did because he got other offers which are expiring before CDNIS's official announcement date; i thought that if my son did poorly, then i'd just go ahead with the other offer. thank God he did well, so i asked for an extension from the other school while waiting for CDNIS final result)

Therefore, for parents with no connection, you need to aim high with your child in terms of performance. Sorry if this cause more anxiety for everyone but i guess it is the truth. Again, i prepared from birth (or before birth, if you believe in 胎教).
