Hi all, i sincerely hope to get some advice here.. My son got an offer as a k2 transfer student to a ESF kinder. I wonder if i should take as he is now studying at local kinder.. Given that there is no priority primary interview for him, we want to look  for an international primary for our son but we  are uncertain if we can find one  for him (some international schools are too expensive), should i stay in local school or take the move? Any advice? Thx so much!

If study at local kinder, unless English speaking is very gd, otherwise I don't think easy to apply international primary.

If you start as a K2 student in Aug, 2014 at a ESF Kindy, you still have interview priority.

Actually no ...

"Priority for interview is subject to having attended kindergarten for a minimum of two terms prior to the applicable January Year 1 interview period."
http://www.esfkindergartens.org.hk/admissions/priority-for-an-esf-school-interview.html

Switching now would mean only one term's attendance before ESF primary school interviews start in January 2015.

It may be better for your child to continue with the local kindergarten and just go ahead and apply for international primary schools this Autumn. Transferring to an ESF kindergarten is not going to help much unless the current local kindergarten is really unsatisfactory.

ESF has just updated the policy to keep the priority for interview for ESF kindergarten kids:

http://www.esf.edu.hk/policy2013#2.

...6. Are children attending an ESF International Kindergarten* [Note: contingent upon the child studying in the kindergarten continuously until the end of term 3 prior to entry into primary school]

Note:-
* Priority for interview is subject to having attended kindergarten for a minimum of two terms prior to the applicable January Year 1 interview period. Students recently arrived from overseas are exempt from the two terms requirement. Students graduating from K2 in the first year of operation of the new Tung Chung kindergarten are also exempt.

so the priority for ESF kinder students is still valid after 2014?is this the most recent change of policy?I remember just several days ago when I was deciding on whether or not to take the ESF kinder offer,I checked their website and it said 2014 would be the last year for ESF kinder students to enjoy interview priority!

Last month ESF did an online survey asking all parents to comment on many different aspects and I would not be surprised if they revise a few of their policies based on the comments received.

Removing ESF kindergarten priority will hurt the kindergartens without bringing any overall benefits to ESF, it simply does not make business sense, and may be ESF finally realized this after reading feedback from the survey.

It seems the latest changes were made just a few days ago, some as recent as last night, if it is true it is going to be a bomb.

Great news for those who acted on faith (i.e. chosen ESF kindergarten even though they knew there would be no priority for primary applications), not so great for those who gave up ESF kindergarten K1 offers after calculating their chances.

Ask yourself are you committed to providing your child international education asap.   If yes, switching to ESF earlier  means there is a better chance of getting into a international primary.

The more bizzare a thing is, the less mysterious it proves to be.

I didnt see the priority is resumed only in 2015 onwards. I supposed it is resumed now for all application onwards.
Btw, that makes more sense!
