My girl is studying at ESF K1, and she was planned to move to k2 and apply the ESF primary this Sept. BUT, as you know, the interview is not guaranteed to offer even for the kids studying in ESF kinder. So I start to apply some other IS as back up. Fortunately, we got interview from IMS and K2 offer the next day. So surprised!
That's why I cannot sleep now.

She is an independent and creative girl. and went to a Montessori PG since 1.5y. I do buy Montessori method before, until she had some speech delay and social problem. I can't say that I don't blame this environment at all. Now she is totally fine and really likes her school.

My concern is

1. it's non-mainstream. I will be worried about the transition to mainstream.

2. It requires several hours independent work without interruption, I will be worried about her speech and social skills.

3. Does it worth to give up the chance to ESF primary or other IS now? Most admission are not open yet.

I really need some advice from IMS parents, tons of thanks!

I am not a IMS parent but I am interested in what you observed about Montessori teaching. My daughter went to Montessori playgroup since 2 yo till 3yo. She definitely loved it and enjoyed the independence and autonomy of the Montessori style. She did not cry at all even the first day of separation. She never cried when she started school at nursery when she reached 2y9m.
The problem was, when she started formal schooling in kindergarten, she has problem in following teacher's instruction and schedules. She wanted to do things her own way and tempo and It took us quite some time to adapt it. It may be my girl's own problem because she is a strong willed child and she always strived for independence since small. Just my sharing I am not saying Montessori is not good, in my heart I really like it but it seems my girl got problem when she went back to traditional schooling.

Thanks for your sharing! In fact, my girl went to a local school (PN) after Montessori playgroup, she can't obey the rules and refused to go to school. And then we change the stream. In IS, She learned to obey the rule from her heart, and really enjoy the school.

You have applied for Montessori for primary 1 and why they offered you a place for K2?

From what you have described,  I will choose to stay at ESF and won't move to Montessori for K2.  You already said your daughter really enjoys the school and obeys the rules from her heart, that showed that teaching methods fit your daughter in ESF.   So if i were you, I won't change to Montessori just in case she cannot get a place at ESF primary.
