I intend to search for primary schools for my daughter next year, pls comment!

問下我嘮, 唔好, 我駛唔駛比晒d女去讀呢? 唔平窩!

好多家長入學跟本未清楚d 學校理念, 教學方法.. 入左又怨, 咁讀乜都唔係好合適架啦..!

我覺學校係幾好, 可能對個別人士照僱得唔夠週全 又讚得唔夠啦..

我之前都講過,在這年多我在BK學會了一件很重要的事:
因材施教 - 即是不要只一味找明校給子女,一定要知道自己子女的特質、喜好和個性而select the suitable schools for them.
正如Msma :好多家長入學跟本未清楚d 學校理念, 教學方法.. 入左又怨, 咁讀乜都唔係好合適架啦..!

我個大女係德望讀左3年，而家問佢鍾唔鍾意間學校，佢都係同3年以來個答案一樣，話好鍾意間學校。問佢返學開唔開心，佢話日日都好開心，我問清楚佢"日日？"，佢好肯定咁答我"係!"，加上平日放學佢會將學校既點點滴滴話我知，所以我好有同感。初初都唔相信傳統學校會讀得開心架，好高興揀'arm'學校比佢。遲d我都會揀番德望比個細女讀架。

In Sept. I'll be a F.4 Good Hoper.  As none of those so-called favourites, namely choir/ band/ orchestra/ athletic team members, I can justly say that GH is never as corrupted as people generally think.

I'm not from a rich family at all, but my teachers have always given me opportunities to prove myself.  Thus far I've been a school reporter and an assistant editor, co-authored the script of the school production, and participated in joint-school functions such as the HKIMUN 2004.

Here I must give the credit to my English and Science teachers in particular, who are never tired of answering my questions.

People of poorer conduct are everywhere.  Then if you accuse GH of the keen competition or heavy work load, you may well not choose it.  After all I was taught to persevere and survive.

I don't know whether it is good or bad. However, I am puzzled that if it is a goood school, why are there so many parents give up the offer of P1? I have heard that even in September, some girls in waiting list can also be offered in P1.

I repeat, I just feel puzzled, I don't think that it is a bad school.

Good hope school is a very good school that what I know.  If your daughter can study there, they will learn a lot and will be a happy child. ^^

Just some observations:

1.  I recall a few years ago when the secondary section was about to change into DSS, a GHS mother phoned Cheng Tai Ban of the Commercial Radio to complain.  She said her orginal plan was to pay for 6-year primary and then get free secondary education.  So this may explain why some give up the seat after finding other free or cheap schools through knocking door.  Remember GHS's fee is expensive.

2.  On the other hand, the registered quota for GHS is 45 girls per class = 225 seats.  As a private organ, you are still legally qualified to take in as many students as possible in order to maximize profit.  

3.  The situation is now changing, based on the observation from my girl's classmates and school bus mates.  They finally choose expensive GHS instead of Yaumatei catholic (free), 陳守仁 ($1200/momth), 聖羅剎 (free), cos of the secondary factor.  As for myself, I have given up a few cheaper private schools cos they do not have secondary section = I must train my girl 6 years later and wait for luck.  Remember the recent trend that most good schools are going to become one-dragon = fewer places available for F.1 central allocation and POA = more keen competition. Even those free schools have secondary section, you still need to keep your kids in the elite class in order to secure a place; otherwise depends on luck.  These parents choosing to pay prefer GHS as a rewarding insurance.

4.   GHS higher english standard is an advantage when you decide to transfer to cheaper and free schools after P.1.

more observations:

1.  a PTA parent told me even you have an elder girl studying in GHS, you younger can only secure a waiting list place.  Looks reasonable and fair.  It just happens that I have a chance to compare 3 girls on one occasion: 1 straight-in, one waiting list and one rejected.  There is an obvious difference: the one who is more talkative, confidence and emotionally stable has a higher successful rate.  Sounds kids' own ability really counts.

2.  have a chance to compare booklist with other schools: e.g., P.5 reader Little woman = Yeep Yann reader; New on Target = St. Stephen's Girls' but GHS is 0.5-1 grade higher; St. Paul Co-ed p.1 has only 1-2 readers and no textbook; Co-ed's maths is Chinese while GHS is bilingual. That's why we buy more books than Co-ed = more expensive (2000 vs. 1400).     



Well, for some issues, we need not complicate the matter.  If you buy, no need for any reason; if you do not buy, you can easily come up with millions reasons.

其實間間學校都大執位，看報都話有人派到男拔、喇沙唔讀，寧願讀直資新校。同樣每間學校都有好老師和惡老師，想深一層：整天笑騎騎的老師未必是好老師，可能他懶得理、反而有時愛之深、責之切的老師都是為學生好，希望學生能成材。

Thanks eggeggma and maylukmay.  I just think it's important to develop a sense of belonging, the way we should be proud of HK and China's althletes in the Olympic games.

In fact a student's self-motivation for learning is, if not more, just as crucial as the "quality" of the school.

Bingo.  It is a bilateral 雙向 process.  You can see it from your kids' KG class.  same teaching direction and materials, but students' performance varies greatly.

Not many people can committee to pay HK$3000/month  for 6years. Then another 3500/month for 3years - then another 4000/month  for 2 years . then 5000/month for 2 years ... especially for the one with more than one kid.

If some are so lucky get the first choice in lucky draw.. I will not surprise they will give up the seats.

Pls to be fair. This do happens in many other good schools.

BTW I have to emphasis that I am not rich . I did work very hard and pay everything for my girls' study. To be honest, it is not easy to find a women as 孤寒/慳家 as me.

Do you all think the copy from she.com is not the fact? I'm still puzzled that Good Hope charges a high price school fee but is it really worth???

Some parents said that it is easy to get a P.1 place in GH compared with other famous school? Is it right?
