I heard that a girl was accepted.  Her mother is a housewife, her father is a doctor, the girl is very talkative.  This is the type DGJS would choose!

Never thinks you and your girls are not smart/ performing not as well as the other /  or you are loosers.

DGJ have their own criteria for selecting their own girls and parents.  If you are not one of their kind, of course will not be selected.  

The result is very normal.

My girl is studying in Kentville.   It seems that so far those girls got accepted are either from St Catherine or CCKG.  Any exceptions?

Yes there are many exceptions.  Users of this website tend to be of the "Kowloon Tong" herd and it is not surprising that people they know tend to be from Kowloon Tong schools.

Allow me to elaborate:

myths are very often self perpetuating.  When I refer to the "Kowloon Tong herd" I mean those parents who go to those few private-run kindergartens (pkus CCKG) and who make "getting into DGJS" their lifelong mission (SC for K1, CCKG for K2-K3, etc).  It is true that some girls from these KGs get into DGJS, and because their parents tend to be more aggressive than those from other KGs (and more prepared to talk on-line: hence the myth created in this forum), they are the ones who will (for example) start study groups in P1, gather other parents' tel no., compile (and compare) data on kids' performance, etc.    In a way the good name of DGJS is slightly tarnished by parents like these - there are lots of mellow, down-to-earth parents from all over HK (and all kinds of KG).

As far as I know, there is not one particular school that can claim a particular stronghold in terms of DGJS admission (CCKG apart - and even for CCKG the rate is not, apparently, as staggering as a lot of people are led to believe).  You also have to consider matters such as the number of applicants from a particular school.  Saying that "x number of kids from a particular school got into DGJS" is rather meaningless, because if if that school is a "chain store" type school with hundreds of students, then "x" may be a comparatively small number.  

My point is that I know from personal knowledge that there are a lot of good KGs around (and those know will know, and I do not want to advertise for any particular one) which produce lots of students who are well liked by lots of prestigious primary schools.  Try to widen your horizon, parents, and not get stuck with the Kowloon Tong herd.

maybe a lot of you also graduated from dgs or other famous schools.
and would probably understand how the system works.

i still remember when i was interviewed at DGJS around early 1990s. THe atmosphere was nearly as intimidating for the child as well as for the parents. There was a feeling of authority and a sense of almost military feeling to it .
When i went inside, the headmistress seemed to be very stern. it was not a very pleasant meeting for me. probably also because i didn;t come from CCKG as my parents wanted me to get into when i was 3. A girl who came from CCKg had an obviously better treatment than I did
Her almost disdainful look was still a recollection.
in my mind.
A girl at the age of 6 could feel that the school was no fun at all for a child, you were expected to work ahrd and contribute all that you have.
Whilst I was stadning outside waiting for the interview, I had this fear that I wouldn;t get in, but i  knew how fate could be changed forever, so i was determined to do my best
After the initial talk with her (it sounded more like a disciplining a child), she called in my mother, and asked about my background. My mother was a primary school teacher and my father was teaching at a teachers college.

I didn;t expect anything, but my mother was unexpected that I got into DGJS,
on the first day, I could sense segregation between CCKg and other non CCKgs, they probably knew each other already quite well so i felt segregated in my first week as it persisted between the girls.
Looking back at my early years, I find it such as waste, I felt that i lost my childhood through studying in such an elite school because when i went into uni, i felt a sense of freedom, felt that i was finally out of this neverending tough condition.

不過有部份dgj d 學生同家長真係自認好超班，連成績中等的同學都唔比同佢地d超班女玩。話怕郡壞架 !

I would not blame the kids.  I would blame the parents, who must have started nurturing this way of thinking since early childhood.

actually i think the top students in the school are playing an equally damaging role in group dynamics, to me those 超班女 try to segregate themselves so that they appear to be unique

This may be a slightly snobbish explanation, but I think a lot of the competitiveness actually comes from "chip on one's shoulders".  

If parents come from extra-rich families (or have "background") they do not need to prove anything (and they do not need to be competitive academically).

If parents are themselves very well educated and cultivated, they will no doubt have high expectation of their kids and privately drive them quite hard, but because they have relatively good background (and have "class" - I do not mean "class" in the sense f high social class or social status, but "class" in the sense of acting with dignity and proper manners) they will not de-generate to the level of wanting to compete with other parents aggressively.

If parents are ordinary decent people with reasonable expectation of their kids, then they will just let their kids develop naturally without pushing them too hard.  And since both parents may have to work they may ave no time to gossip or compete with the others.

The most intolerable are the "wannabe" type.  I may sound very snobbish in saying this, but there are parents who think they have "a point to prove": they may now be professionals (or in middle/senior management posts) but they have this feeling that they have not been to the best or most elite school themselves (there are professionals and there are professionals).  There is nothing wrong in this, because we all want our kids to do better than ourselves.  However, the difference between wannabe parents (as in the case of all kinds of wannabes) and ordinary decent parents (with expectation of their kids) is that wannabe parents try to hard to prove themselves and to beat others.    Also, they may feel that, now they are "professionals", they wish the whole world to heap praises on them by saying "O, your kid goes to this and that school and he or she comes first, how clever!"
