Re: 《英語教學迷思》系列

I support the bilingual way of learning in HK, from kinder to secondary.  It is not really good to distinguish so much CMI and EMI, which creates so much pressure for schools, teachers, parents and students.  Maybe we should make some reference to the languages education in foreign countries, in many places such as in Canada, Europe, most people learn 2 or even more languages at the same time.  In Canada, English is the first language, and French is the second language, which is learnt as one of the subjects. In France, it's the vice versa.  In those countries, the second language is not that important or used that often as in HK.

In HK, due to practical needs, we need a balance in both Chinese and English, so will be better for our kids to study some subjects in Chinese (those which are more locally related such as history, general studies, religious studies, arts), and study other subjects in English (such as science, IT, Eng Literature etc).  Really hope that this can be carried out.

Re: 《英語教學迷思》系列

Philip,

Not really, in IS, they have about 90% English, while in most local schools, 90% Chinese.

Better balance (50/50) is only used in a few DSS or private schools.  A lot of these schools are however too new, cannot see the results yet.  I hope that more schools can really adopt this, yet take very long time due to resources limitations.
