Hello all,

It was glad to read school circular yesterday. The school management committee has decided to run ‘through train’ between primary and secondary. May be it is the first through train girl school. Students of primary five will not need to submit the examination result to EMB.

It is great. The promotion criteria to secondary will follow school’s own rule. Less examination pressure.
What a great news! I can arrange new program to my child and allow her spending more time in her interesting activities.
Can any parents in this web site share the activity arrangement, especially the schoolmate?

Although I am not the SPC parents, but glad to see parents and kids will have less pressure on exams.

St. Paul convent is my target school for my little girl who is only 7 months now.  Can you or other mummies help me answer the following questions.

1. If I want to let my girl study in SPC, do I have to put my girl on St. Paul Kindergarten.  There are so many St. Paul kindergarten, which one has the highest chance to be admitted to SPC?

2. There is one St. Paul nursery in Causeway Bay, does she has the higher chance too if I put my little girl to there when she is 2?

I am quiet confuse, hope some mummies can give me some advises.

hi Busybusy,
only the SPK and SPN in Causeway Bay is related to St Paul Convent Primary. As you can see, they are in the same school campus site. As far as I know, most students (talking about over 90%) of SPK and SPN (nursery) will go directly to SP convent primary. If you target SP convent Primary, you should try SPK (for 3yr old)or SPN (for 2yr old) for your girl. You can go to the "Kindergarten" section of BK forum and check the topic of SPK for further info.

Congratulations!  Does this mean the Secondary School will become a private school too?

How old is your girl?  Is there a lot of homework / test during the school year?

Can you easily get in touch with the teachers, such as discussing your girl's school life?

For having "not much homework", you mean in the Secondary or the Primary?

Yes, it's quite a "big" class of 40 students in the Primary.  Do you know if Marymount is of the same class size?

Congratulation! It's good news for all SPCS students and their parents!

Can anyone advise if the primary section will change to DSS or not? I want the primary section to have more resources after changing to DSS. Then, the class size would be decreased to small size. 30 students in one class are most welcome.

"Students of primary five will not need to submit the examination result to EMB".  I would like to know how's the arrangement, as I am also interested in applying for SPCS for my daughter.  Will students of the primiary school still be able to join central allocation if they want to get a place in subsidized secondary school? If so, I think the results still need to reach EMB? And as the convent secondary section is already a DSS, it has the max freedom to choose students and the claim of "through train" is just gimmick or guarantee to primary school students, I think?

Well, for through train different from direct feeder to my understanding is very simple. Under through train system, all primary 6 graduates fulfill the promotion requirement can promote to its secondary, no need to join the secondary place allocation from EMB. Therefore, no subject weighting, no need to over-care examination result place, no banding of students,….all students reach the promotion criteria can direct walk in to its secondary.
As experienced parents will understand how painful for children rush to the front position in examination result.

One will said that under direct feeder system, secondary will also accept its primary student. However, its primary students should compete with outsider under secondary place allocation for fair principle. Direct feeder will first accept band 1 or 2 students first. Under through train, no one will be rejected even though the girl only just gets passing mark.—“No one will be abandoned”. Passing mark is not so difficult as in normal case.

“Will students of the primiary school still be able to join central allocation if they want to get a place in subsidized secondary school?”---If the parents’ve already known that it’s a through school, will the child still want to join allocation in order to get a place in subsidized secondary school? If yes, under through train system, the child can still join allocation but the child will lose place in SPCS.

If my understanding is wrong, please correct me.

Back to my first posting, how to bring up child in a through train school? Any experienced parents can share this?

You are right and absolutely true. My daughter likes the school so much and getting happier and happier ! Although she has much more homework this year (P.3) than last year, still the workload is reasonable and she can have time for extra curricular activities.

It is a bit hard to contact teachers because the workload of the teacher is really great. Each class is more than 40 students in primary section. The tuition fee is really reasonable.

原本她小學是私校, 中學是直資,都係主要收番自己D學生,  依家變為:
直資一條龍, 即是點?  小學仍是私小, 中學仍是直資, 又係要收費及收番自己學生, 實際上有咩唔同左?

佢地好似舊年才將中學轉為直資，
咁咪可以結龍囉。

收既學費唔會超出家庭總收入既某個百分比。
如有超出會由教會支付超出部份，
你話聖保祿修女會幾好呢！
最衰我得一個仔，如果我有個女，
我一定一定會報考，
我D同學既女都係讀緊SPCS，佢地就好喇！

So you see. You agreed there is a problem for you son la. Therefore you son in wah yan primary face the problem of getting into wah yan second. Even more the case for wah yan secon because they need 85% (instead of 75% because they are not one dragon) to meet the english medium teaching level. So don't blame me for being very straight to the point.

HI Myjewel,

Thanks for your prompt reply and let me know more.

If both SPK and SPN got 90% student admitted into SPCS, then does SPCS got enough seat to admite both SPK and SPN children.

I know SPN can accept child when she is 2 yrs old, then got N1 to N4, and SPK form K1 to K3.  do I need to study N1 till N4 or I need to get in N1 first then apply K1 at the other year.  Which should I plan and easier get a seat to SPCS.  Can you or some other mummies can elaborate more to me?
