Any P.3 parents? Come and share!

Dear all,

My daughter is now P.3 and studied in HYPS since P.1.  Thoughout these years, I can see my daughter studied happily and showed great improvement both in her acadenic and inter-personal skill.  She loves her school very much and love to go to school every day because of those kind teachers as well as her cutie classmates.

Hello acoggo,

It seems not many P.3 parents come to BK. Though I'm not a P.3 parent, I just come to say hi

I know many P.3 faces too, because I worked as lunchtime volunteer in 1A two years before and in 2A last year, so I've seen many of them since P.1 and now suddenly they're in P.3. How time flies!!

有個問題想問你，你囡囡轉到協恩後在學業上是否需要時間適應？我覺得小女在英文科有些困難，特別在寫作和應對方面。小女現於英國文化協會補習英文，但效果不理想，我想找外籍人士單對單補習，但無從入手。

Dear doris25,

From my friends' experience, the Eng Course in British Council is a little bit not suitable for local student. I don't think a traditional 補習班can help them to learn better English.  Will you try some English course which like drama? I think the kid will enjoy it much more.

And, in fact which area of English that your daughter need to improve? Written or oral???

Let's discuss.

囡囡是Written and Oral 唔是太好，在家中多數用中文溝通，暑假時曾經跟一位外籍女士學英文，效果唔錯，但後來那位外籍女士因情緒問題要休息，所以才選擇去英國文化協會學，不過唔是太好，因一班有約20人，講的機會太少又不能與導師溝通，唔知道學成點樣。現時很頭痛。

Hello acoggo,

My daughters are now in P.6 and F.2. They were transferred to  HYPS two years ago (P.4 and P.6). I helped during lunchtime in 1A or 2A once a week since then. If your daughter was in 2A or 1A before, I would recognise her.

By the way, I saw in BK that your son has got into DBSPD, congratulations!!

Hello Doris,

很久沒有看見你留言，你好嗎？
英文科的要求是比較高的，我的女兒轉校前的暑假也下過一番努力，主要是作文方面，因為從前的小學只有Guided writing，或者Free writing，很少作文（即老師不用改）。

你有沒有看過cherrylemon寫的關於她怎樣令她的女兒英文成績大有進步的討論呢？她也是協小家長，女兒讀四年級。

我覺得你的女兒最重要是多寫，或者你可以買一些新加坡出的英文寫作練習給女兒做，不過要由淺入深，可以買低一兩級的。另外要多看書和聽，例如Blackcat系列和Oxford Reading Tree 系列都有audio CD可以一邊看一邊聽。至於英語會話應對方面，其實老師要求不會太高，只要肯說就可以，不用文法正確。如果作文方面有進步，連帶說話都會有進步，因為作文其實是在心裏說話。

TWMa，你的女兒（二年級）英文程度很高，好像也有上一些英文課，可以說說嗎？

女兒 K3 開始, 我讓她在家附近上一個英語 "chat room" 課程, 逢星期一至五, 每天一小時, 每班最多8名小朋友.
那個課程是在一個輕鬆的環境下, 讓小朋友聽和說英文, 沒什麼要求的 (唯一要求就是課堂中只能用英語交談吧), 老師就是天南地北, 課程內容可以是老師們的旅遊見聞, 也可以是天文地理、新聞, 甚至是唱唱英文歌或做小手工...等等, 頭一年, 我也不覺得女兒講英文有什麼大進步, 不過, 聽的能力倒是不錯, 再過一年, 也不知怎麼的, 女兒說的能力好像也進步不少, 上次帶她外出旅遊, 她可以很自在地用英文結識外籍朋友, 連那外籍朋友的父親 (在馬來西亞教英文的英國人) 都問女兒的英文那裡學的.
不過, 這個課程只提供給年紀較小的孩子, 女兒上到 P1 學期末就沒得上了, 那中心現在提供給他們這般大小朋友的課程叫 "project presentation skill", 一樣每天一小時, 但是需要他們整理一些資料及 Presentation. 成效如何? 我多數會見老師寫缺少 eye contact 、聲音太小, 甚至內容不夠等的評語, 希望慢慢會有改進吧

The suggestion from cheungll '我覺得你的女兒最重要是多寫，或者你可以買一些新加坡出的英文寫作練習給女兒做，不過要由淺入深，可以買低一兩級的。' is really useful.  I try this method before for my daughter and it's really can built her confident in english.

雖然近來比較少到來, 但也想來看一看.

你好! 小女是本年度三年級的插班生, 也是在3A, 和妳囡囡是同班的啊! 小女說這班同學很好, 個個都很照顧她, 令她在這陌生環境下很快適應下來.

Hope to meet you in HY at the fun fair. I plan to go in the morning cos' my daughter will attend a lesson in the afternoon.

BTW, would you mind telling me who is your daughter? (You can PM me her class no. ) Maybe, I have met her before in the school as I participate in the lunch time volunteer every week.

Actually, my daughter is not very well in sports. She hates swimming because she feels no security in the water. Last time, she was pulled back in the middle of the pool by the amah using a long stick during the swimming lesson. She said that she will give up this item.

I think I won't meet you at Fun Fair cos I'll go there in the afternoon (since I've to go to the church in the morning).But it doesn't matter, we still have many many chance to meet later on, right?

And, don't mind that your girl give up swimming, she can perform well in other aspects like 田徑where I know she's quite strong on it.
