Letter - give up seat offer

Dear all,

If I want to give up the seat offer by some private schools (already registered & paid school fee), do I need to write letter to inform them.  

If need, does anyone can provide me sample for reference?

I had written such letter but I did not have copy. The main content of course to appreciate the school's kindness for offer your child a seat but owing to personal reason like financial change, the distance from home to that school is too long and other reason (must not be the reason the new school you chose is better and you don't need to tell the new school name).  Then at the last, just bless the school has better and better result in the future even your child can't be one of the students.

A week later, I also got the reply letter from the principal who said she fully understood my situation (my reason was I got a closer school and my parents-in-law did not want my child so early to wake up to catch school bus at 6:30 a.m.) and ask me to get back the refundable deposit.
