St. Louis 並非"一條龍", 而是"直屬".直屬小學生要參加统一派位抽直屬中學的保留位,以St.Louis小六生為例,Band1升上中學不成問題,Band2要抽獎給部份學生升上. "一條龍"是全部小六生直升,有分別,津校的例子有St. Mary's.

Due to the physical limitation of St. Louis School Primary Section, all band 1 and band 2 students can be promoted to secondary section.  It's because the secondary section is much larger than the primary section, so the places thru feeder can well cover them.

好像小學今年小六約51人,數字上假設全部參與统一派位乙部抽獎,St.Louis今年直屬保留位只有45個,數字上是不夠分配.雖然實際上有人會走去考更好學校,或者自行收番,或者甲部抽中,令數字低過45,但只要有可能會變化,便不能當"一條龍"去睇,"直屬"始終是有風險.

我都知唔係真正既一條龍, 不過點知都比無中學BACK UP 好既... 因為我地抽中既係寶血, 中學只係FOR 女仔...

In reality, this is the key difference between one-dragon and feeder school systems.

For one-dragon, presumably all students from band 1 to band 3 need to be accepted.  In reality, most one-dragon are either band 2 or band 3 schools so this is not a concern.  The only exception is St. Mary's.  Under a school management, the learning differences between band 1 and band 3 students is so huge ( I am serious since some band 3 students can even recognize from A to Z by Form 5).  So, they will be let go during primary stage.

For feeder school systems, basically band 1 and band 2 students are automatic as long as spaces allowed (there are feeder schools who ONLY take own band 1 students which EDB allow this, but this is not the case in St. Louis which I can assure you).  Band 3 students are excluded unless a school choose to take them also.  But for the good of the students, I personally don't think this is a good idea as they will have real trouble following the progress.

51 this year?  Definitely not that many for this year P6.  For the past few years, the number reserved for own feeder school is equal the number of students in P6.  Under feeder system, the max number they can reserved is much more than that.

There are less than 51 students in current P6.

Based on the student size of S1, the max number that can be reserve is around 78-79, while the primary school usually have two classes so the total primary students cannot exceed this number.   That means the only reason a primary student cannot promoted to secondary section is they are in band 3 category.

Of course this only applies to feeder school system with 4 classes of secondary and 2 classes of primary.

Oh I guess need to explain one more thing.

Since the max. allowed number is around 78-79, so the 45 you saw is exactly the total number of students in P6.  Since it make no senses to reserve more than the total size of current P6.

The basic calculation for reserved seat is total S1 size (34 x 4) - 30% for Discretionary Places - around 4 for repeat = 91.  Then 85% of this 91 can be reserved for own feeder student, i.e. around 77-78.

Okay. This makes sense. So there should be maximum 45 band1 and band2 students in current P6 by estimation.  Thanks for correcting me.

You are welcome.  Actually I think 51 should be the total number of current P5 students....

45 is the actual total number of students in current P6.  The school won't estimate the number of band 3 students for the reservation purpose.  They will simply set the maximum in case no ones are in band 3

Oh sure, over half are band 1.  There are a few band 3 which unfortunately can't be avoided due to small class size (since changing to whole day).

I would choose SL, as it has a secondary school as back up, whereas PB secondary is for girls only.
If your child is academically strong, he can always apply for another school. If not, he can stay comforably at SL.
