高主教 vs 基恩

Can't say how excited I am when found baby-kingdom.com.  We are facing difficulty in choose the most suitable school for my son.

My son has offer from Raimondi (高主教) and Kei Yan (基恩).  Raimondi seems to be more famous while Kau Yan is  a very repectable primary school.  After considered all the Pros and Cons of them, we still cannot make a decision.

Appreciate if anyone can share their views.  

Summarize all the 'rumors' which we have learnt.  They may not be fair and correct.

Raimondi's Pros:
- well-known elite school
- have secondary school (although not 100% accepting own graduate though)
- good academic results (but not sure exactly how good compared to other elite school)

Raimondi's Cons:
- P1 in PM only (going to change to full-time in 2007)
- traditional in teaching methodology
- boy-only school (argruable)

Kei Yan's Pros:
- Top 3 most prefered primary school in Central/western district
- Whole day school from P1 to P6
- Free
- Good in sports and activity

Kei Yan's Cons:
- Not famous since no linked famous secondary school
- Relatively weak in English (but not sure exactly how weak is weak compared to Raimondi)

其實睇長遠小小, 都係raimondi有"保證", 起碼有直屬, 到六年班時, 如果成績好, 可以試下考d band 1中學, 如果中中亭亭, 又可以上raimondi secondary.  而且等一兩年就轉全日, 制度同基恩一樣.

Having linked 2ndary school is a real benefit.  My son is a bit shy and not too outgoing type.  Wonder if Raimondi teachers are patient enough.

I hate being over worry....

Academic performance呢樣野真係好睇個人.  就好似人人都想入既喇沙一樣, in general, 佢既academic stardard係高, 但總有人讀唔上而drop out, 不過你唔知有幾多唶!

我又覺得, 人比人比死人, 好似呢度d媽媽鐘意叫人將d學校去排位咁 (恕我得罪講), 有時都覺得好似d馬去排位咁.... 既然大家都係band 1, 咁都已經係個最基本既保證, 如果仲要排band 1之中既band 幾, 真係煩到好唔得閒....

事實上, 小朋友係咪讀到好書都好睇佢係咪遇到個好老師--啟蒙老師.  我有個同事就係咁喇.  佢本身好叻架, 佢以前係讀St. Paul Co-edu, 小學讀SFA, 但佢講番, 佢小學既成績係差到要drop out, 不過有個"好"老師, 係都要罰佢寫英文日記.  佢寫左成年, 英文好左, 加上n年前人地唔興學國際音標時, 呢個老師都要迫佢學.  結果, 一年多d, 佢英文由30分去9x分, 成功考入St. Paul Co-edu....  

所以呢, 就算入到好學校, 都要求神拜佛希望個細路遇到個好老師law.

睇你個message, 似乎你都想個仔入raimondi.  你話你個仔"a bit shy and not too outgoing type", 佢又唔一定成世就咁定型.  男校d男仔玩埋一齊咪仲好, 有peer influence, 唔成問題wo!  而且一間學校有唔同性格既學生走埋一齊至好架.  就算你比佢去基恩都改變唔到佢既"a bit shy and not too outgoing type"啦, 唔洗擔心既.

Raimondi老師唔係好嚴, 都係同其他學校一樣, 我又未聽聞有學生怕左呢間學校wo.  而且而家間間小學都會比好多allowance 小一生, 唔洗worry架.

高主教 vs 基恩,俾我就選基恩.但基恩vs黃埔宣道,入邊間好?聖保羅堂幼稚園個校長話基恩D老師好有愛心,活動教學,係11區係好好嘅小學.但黃埔宣道好近我,可以自已送佢番學(我已經炒了工人),而且黃埔宣道係35區是一間唔錯嘅小學.

Hi mk2000, sorry but I'm not familiar with 黃埔宣道.  But I believe the children will very much enjoy going to school with parents.  Trust me, my son behaves better after I start bring him to school bus every morning.

Btw, have you heard any comments on english standard of 基恩?

Dear Teresa, much appreciate your valuable suggestion.  We do a bit prefer Raimondi Primary.  However, I just learnt today that Raimondi Secondary school is bad.  The students are not behaves even in public locations.  If this is true then I'm worry.

I only know that the standard of 基恩 is not as high as St. Paul Boys.  I don't know how it compare with Raimondi.  I think the secondary school allocation of 基恩 is quite good.  The principal of our kindergarten and some parents of 基恩 highly recommend this school.  I personally prefer school with both sex to boy school and 基恩 is free of charge.

我見之前BK有mami話小朋友由一間傳統學校轉去高主教讀得好開心, 而且我一路見有關高主教&基恩topics都係好的,

你說得對！我也聽過Raimondi Secondary只是 “一般”。我有朋友在Raimondi Secondary教書，而我表弟也在Raimondi 讀（升F. 5)。

我都有打探過Raimondi Sec 的問題。學生水平本身不是差，只是早年曾經有些“不愛讀書”的同學在學校搞事，甚至驚動警方，因而給人一個這樣的印象 -- 好事不出門、壞事傳千里！

我表弟是中學才入Raimondi的，他現在讀精英班。我都問過我舅父Raimondi校風的問題（這是我最concern的），我舅父說校風還是不錯，也沒有聽見我表弟說有欺淩事件，讀書氣氛也好（不知是不是我表弟讀精英班的關係！）。

其實你問我，我對基恩和Raimondi的印象都很好，基恩老師很熱心，學校又有宗教，全日制，6年學費全免。基恩的“唯一缺點”是沒有直屬/聯係中學，比起Raimondi，學生到P.6還是要“冒險”的。所以，如果我才說，從長遠角度，Raimondi在升中聯係上起碼有一點“把握”（暫且撇開Raimondi質素問題）。

你現在的決定怎樣呢？

We went to Kei Yan for visit today.  It seems their sports are among the top in HK especially in table tennis and football.  The campus is looks like a sport center in satursday.  The students are very proud of their awards in sport.  Kudos!

Will visit Raimondi next week.

Thanks for reminding me the fundamental questions.  From today I'll bring my son to visit both schools and discuss with him.  In terms of location, they are both equally near.
Frankly, I have search thro' the whole BK and local newspapers.  Any other good websites you can recommend?

You can search 高主教 & 基恩 by using yahoo or google search engine, you can found many related information from the various web for reference but BK should be the most informative one.  Besides the student and parents in both school, may be you can ask 學校附近補習社, they knew the school teaching method, workload and etc.

我可以答你.   Raimondi 一定收細仔, 我仔有個同學 (12月出生)都入到.  不過, 佢地都會睇interview表現既, 如果一粒聲都唔出, 神仙難助.
