sandycat,
I think most kids will have some of the "faults" associated with lack of concentration in the article.
Though I always say my son is "head fing fing" "like a cloud", and shows some of the "traits" mentioned, he CAN concentrate on toys when he is playing with them, for a vvvvv long time. e.g. Lego, toy cars.
fyi, Some of the traits of the 缺乏專注力的徵狀 described are found :
- Sometimes. But miraculously he can respond, ==> he is thinking of 2 or more things at one time.
-this applies to doing homework etc when he doesn't want to.
- always says he wants to wee-wee, drink, play etc when we ask him to finish his homework and practice on the piano. But sometimes, if and when he is willing to, can finish his Maths of Beads homework vvv quickly, quicker than my hubby can check using a calculator. Depends on whether he is in a co-operative mood or not.
- depends on whether he is more interested in what he is doing, or in the external stilumus.
Sometimes asks me whether he has brushed his teeth or not, practiced on the piano or not. My interpretation is, whether he has thought about the answer / used his brains or not before asking, or asked without thinking.
= can never sit still.
But my son can sit still - in front of the TV when there are cartoons, when he likes what he is doing.
My son never does this, never physically leaves his seat in the school classroom. But his thoughts will roam.
On the other hand, if he attends an ECA, he may sometimes leave his seat or sit there and daydream.
Sometimes.
- doesn't like to learn chess, go chess etc, doesn't want to learn the rules. Unless he is interested in the activity or game.
Can chat a lot on subjects he like. And does talk a lot for a boy. But can also stay quiet.
- only if he thinks he knows the answer well.
- this usually happends when I am chatting with my friends and he has nothing else to engage him / keep him occupied.
My personal view is:
Unless the kid really show SERIOUS problems with those traits mentioned in the article, ALL kids will unavoidably have SOME of the traits mentioned, and SOME kids will have MOST or ALL of the traits mentioned. It is only when the problem PERSISTS, that there is REALLY a problem.
I usually explain to my son what is right / proper / expected of him in xxx situation. Sometimes he remembers, sometimes he forgets. So need to remind him over and over and over and over again ga.
Unless the kid can NEVER sit still, can NEVER concentrate on anything, etc, ==> there really is some problem with the kid.
Otherwise, it is just normal development, different DEGREE of concentration with different kids.
Adults measure kids' performance along some scale, and lack of concentration / impulsivity becomes a problem when a certain THRESHOLD is reached - but this threshold varies with different people. There is no absolute measure, just some commonly acceptable scale in the society. |
