戲劇教育有用嗎？

有個疑問，為什麼要上戲劇課？

先來引用一下黃明樂《港孩》一書中的小測試，看看以下兩句戲劇對白：
Bill : I don’t believe you.
Louis (Take out a knife from drawer) : Maybe this will convince you.

純粹看見以上對白，你會聯想到是什麼的一個場景或情况呢？Bill不相信Louis，Louis於是從抽屜中取出刀子想傷害或殺死Bill？還有沒有其他想法？其他可能性？

明樂說拿這兩句教中學生戲劇課，十個有九個會立刻把它簡單地演繹成一個殺人故事，然而學生們的演技近乎零，因為沒有一位明白如何用刀子殺人又或者其實他們根本沒有殺過人，哈哈！但演技那part是後話，要談的是為什麼學生們會只是想到是一個殺人故事。

這幾年, 好多學校都努力推行english drama, 除了想提高英文水準外, 相信是可以令學生自信心提高, 也相信是希望能擴闊學生的思維!

agreed, my son's school, Shatin LMC they got 1 subject is DRAMA cos my son love Drama so much!!

Did you observe his change before & after the drama class?

I think that the impact of drama class greatly depends on learners' character & the degree of their devotion to it.  My girl did not find much satisfaction during her first English drama class in P.1.  With teacher's recommendation, she got a chance to participate an English musical performance on stage in P.4.  Maybe she's much mature by then & it's a large scale of performance, she did enjoy it very much.  I can't find her improvement in creativity but notice her greater interest in oral English, how to pronounce words in a sensible tone & memorize all others' scripts.  Everything's not easy for most of the children had no experience.  I witnessed the whole process including 6-7days' rehearsals a week for 3mths & the final performance.  No one complainted about all the tough arrangement & appointment of roles.  I will never forget how touching the scene was at the hall exit on the last night of performance.  Tears covered every kid's face & all of them were not willing to leave.  I believe that every scene will stay in their hearts for life.

Nevertheless, group performance can really help children to build up their sense of belonging, confidence & teamwork.  But, I strongly find the ads saying "English drama can help children to enter the famous school..." much disgusting!  Extra-curricular activities especially those artistic ones should never be emphasised as a tool for 'famous' schools!

上戲劇課不及參與english drama咁有用. 阿女學校年年有english drama, 我都睇咗幾年. 你會驚訝於一班中學生既組織能力同talent, 由director, 樂曲, 道具, 場景, 服裝, 化裝, 舞蹈全部由學生包辦, 人數有百幾二百人, 經歷半年既磨合先可以成功演出, 呢o的經驗係好難得既.
