It's really challenging for the students who have never had dictation before in the first term. The game will start middle of Sep while some of the students are still dreaming.
I should say the competition in SPCPS is keen that most of the parents' expectation (or students themselves) is very high.
Five years ago, my son did go through a very hard time in that P1 Sept, especially he had come from a happy kinder. I still remembered that first but not the last terrible evening.
5 years has gone by, my son started doing revision on his own in the second term of P5. His comment is that with proper preparation, dictation can be overcome. Even so, we still have many other things to worry about.
So, a coin always has 2 sides, good English std cannot be achieved without a cost.
