Actually, there is no secret.
My daughter is going to be in P.3 of CPS.
The Chinese session is conducted in either Cantonese/ Mandarin. You have to choose before entry of P.1.
Each day, they have 2 English sessions. Bible is also taught in English.
General study is taught in Cantonese & English, but in different topics.
While the EQ session, maths, music & PE are in Cantonese.

Homework volumn is low, only a bit hard in P.1 because of adjustment.
School encourages the students to read books & each student has own record, and award will be given if student meets the target.

Also, teachers are really nice & patient. And there are many after school activities ($ needed).

Regarding the language & reading ability, we parents should take active part in sharing responsibility.
For me, I enjoy going to book shops/library with my daughter. And I spend quite a lot of time in reading with her.
But I know most of the CPS parents are doing the same thing, & we pay much concern with our children's progress, also their motivation in active learning.

I appreciate with the warm atmosphere as all the teachers are nice with smiles always. They never scold the students, only counsel those naughty one repeatedly. And they think positive encouragement would make changes.

Also, the school encourage the students active learning with critical thinking. No copy cat, analysis what you've learnt & make you own comments, then present your work in front of the class. Students are trained confident in presentation, & that is why the senior students can get good result in future interview.

Besides, teachers can be reached quite easily & are willing to listen to parents' voices.

As you say, since most of the subjects are taught in Cantonese, the English level is really not good as some famous schools. But I believe languages could be improved with time & reading. I don't want to urge for overt improvement but to keep my daughter's habit of 'fun & enjoyment'  in reading.
