Toms Lee Junior Music Courses

My child has passed the Junior Music Course (JMC) taught in Toms Lee and I am in the dilemna of enrolling him to the Junior Extension Courses (JXC) or the traditional art of playing the piano and taking the Royal Music exam.

Does anyone know much about the Toms Lee - Junior Extension Courses (JXC) ?

What is the difference learning JXC and the Royal Music ?

Which is better ?

Could anyone please advise me on this ?  Thank you.

Re: Toms Lee Junior Music Courses

my daughter graudated from JMC one year ago and now she is learning piano (private tutor).   we made this choice because we think piano is a good musical instrument to train up both her left and right brain and more suitable for her age (8 years old now).  learning piano and taking the RM exam can clearly show us what progress she made and the grading she achieve, which is accepted by the whole world. If you can see the brochure (or from tom lee web site), the JXC course is not mainly focus on piano and the topics covered are quite board.   However, I think it's a good choice for those children who don't like piano  but the parents want them to at least attend one music-related course and find their real interest later on.

Re: Toms Lee Junior Music Courses

Hello ahk019

Thank you for your advice.

I am also told that JXC will get more difficult later.  One thing attracts me in JXC is that it teaches the child to have the freedom to compose music on their own and not depend on piano scores like in RM.

Perhaps taking the Royal Music gives more guarantee as it is recognised world wide.
