Yes, it's quite good and children will have a lot of fun in the class.

My son has been learning drama in PIP school for a year, and it helps him a lot in using his voice, facial expression and body language to express himself.

How many students and teachers in a class? My son is quite active. Are the teachers experienced in teaching children, or pure artists?
They have camps in summer holiday? Seems their regular course need 2-3 hours?

Mine too! Sure no problem as you know PIP means Pleasure in play. You can know more of the background/qualifications of tutors from their website.

Courses held throughout the whole year (except Sep). Each class last for an hour only.

Students have chance of public performance?
Yes, but depends on age and how long he has been joining the courses.
My son took part in a performance around 10 minutes at Agnes B Theatre by end of Aug last time. Good experience and fun too!

Usually I talk about my son and myself in "sum sing" forum.

Yes, my son joined 2 PTH speech and 1 eng speech this year.

I know many parents just enrolled the competition through kindergarten and trained up kids by their own. Results of which are quite satisfactory.

For myself, as my son's kinder will not help students to enrol speech competition, hence my son joined Little Dynamites for PTH speech and Learning Tree for eng speech.

btw, how old is your kid now?

I am not that buddy. I don't go to the web very often. Your message is in the Western District Mother Column, with Teresa. Seems don't see Teresa and you so often, so once when I spot your name I just find where you are in the babykingdom.

My son is 7.5 yrs old. It is a pity you are in Hong Kong side, so your place for learning course is not suitable for my son. But you are great to have let your son join the speech festival and drama course so early.

I enrol through the school in speech festival (pth and Eng) for the first year. The school provide a VCD, and we train our self. It is quite time-consuming , but a lot of satisfaction.

For drama course, I was advised by a centre near my son's school that my son can join the Trinity Speech and Drama Exam training course. There is drama element in it.

My son's Eng is lagging behind. I am struggling to brush up his English through speaking.

My son also took Trinity Speech and Drama exam (initial grade) in May this year.

As he had got a poem in hand (the one he used in 2005 speech festival), hence he only needed training on story telling.

How's the progress of Letterland of your son then?

Dear Kittylock,

Actually last summer I let my son join Polyu computer course on phnological awareness, and then I teach him Letterland myself. He learn most of the Letterland now. He is quite OK in Eng pronounciation of sentence after repeated practice, like reciting poem. Letterland also helps improve his dictation.

Your son also join the Speech and Drama Trinity Exam ! You can choose any poem for the examination? Do you find Eng storytelling is diffiuclt? How would you compare the conversation exam of Trinity with the Speech and Drama Exam? Your son attend training course for the exam? in HK side?

Which grade of exam your son is going to take? Initial /Grade 1/Grade 2?

My son has just attended the ESOL conversation grade 1 examination. I just wonder should I let him join ESOL or the speech and drama exam. I am hesitated if he can cope with the latter exam. You have any advice?

I've gone to the web. Surely I would choose initial stage if my son join the exam. Seems the candidate needs to chat with the examiner. So this part cannot be prepared?

Your son attend Wise Studio class? Is it the one that has Kowloon Branch? There is one near my son's school. It is a one-one class? The story is chosen by the Studio? thanks.

Is the ESOL conversation exam an oral test only?Any more info of this test pls. Seems that you're quite interested in the "speaking" mode of exam.

The class my son attended was group lessons cos no suitable private tutor found.

Yes, the candidate has to talk to the examiner about the chosen pieces e.g. which part he likes most and why etc and other free talk.

In my son's case, the story is recommended by the learning centre. Of course you have the right to choose the story which your son is most familiar with.

btw, besides Trinity S&D exam, I let my son take part in London Test of Eng for children by end of Oct. This is a comprehensive exam on listening, speaking, reading and writing ability of candidates.

How about the poem part of TSD?  Did you practise with kv on your own?  Is Grade 1 much harder than Initial Grade?

My son used the same poem of speech festival. He was trained by the learning centre which enrolled him to the competition.

As far as I know, the diff between Initial grade and Grade 1 is mainly marking scheme and duration.

For initial grade, duration is just 8 minutes, with 40% on poem, 40% on story and 20% on free talk.

For grade 1, duration is 10 minutes, with 30% on prose passage from a play,  30% for poem, 20% on performance of mime and 20% on free talk.

Trinity ESOL is just on speaking. For the initial grades they are just testing on casual communication skill just like asking about the candidate's personal information, or family. In higher grade candidates seems have to write, present, and discuss with the examiner.

There is book called Talking Trinity for candidates to study.  My son is just joining Grade 1 so I teach him myself but just attend 1 session one to one training in Wise in Prince Edward Rd.

How do you compare Cambridge with London test of Eng?

My son is a slow learner in English, esp. in writing and  dictation. Actually he cannot handle writing examin. That's why I will find him some speaking exam.

So in the class in Wise, they are just teaching mime and storytelling, but not presenting peom? I plan to let my son join the ESOL grade 2 in July in Wise but they ask my son to join their class now. I think it is too early.
