Finished the second tier assessment on last sat. School mentioned the result will be announced in Feb

Hi, German is taught as a second language in gsis, has your kid learnt German before?  I'm thinking of applying in later years but am worried about learning German.

If you are referring to secondary, they have different streams for German. The new comers can join beginner stream, but some may have learn German outside so they could join the higher stream.
The good thing here is that you can keep learning Chinese at the same time while learning a foreign lang, (the highest Chinese stream is native level), or even french (starts from beginner level), unlike in some IS, you have to choose either Chinese or foreign Lang.
If you join from Y7, you must take IGCSE German here, but for IB, it’s optional to choose either chi/German/french.

Thank you very much for your detailed information. My child is learning French, will it be possible or too harsh if she learns German, French and Chinese together, and English as a first language?Did you mean that she can skip German if she joins at grade 8?  
If she joins at grade 9, is Chinese A SL or Chinese B SL required in the IB exam? Or is it free for her to choose?.

School won’t allow students learning all 4 Lang, Eng and German are compulsory, and choose between chi or french.
Is it too much really depends on the student him/herself. I know someone interested in Lang who took 5 Lang at IGCSE (learn from outside).
I am not sure about the detail, you better check with the admission staffs, most students took chi B but a few took chi A last year, not sure when did the chi Astudents start to join.

Registration for renewal of next school year just ended on 31/3, should receive good news after Easter holiday!

For Y8, heard only one leaver..
For Y9 usually 10+ students will leave for top boarding school.
Another batch of students will leave after IGCSE but new recruitment is minimum at Y12, they don’t fill up all spots.
