Open Day this Saturday

Hi everybody,
It will be Gigamind English Primary School Open Day this Saturday (28/3). It is from 2:00 to 5:00. All are welcome. Do come and know more about the school. Recently the teachers, volunteer parents and pupils are working hard to prepare for it. There will be performances by pupils. Don't expect to see grand or over-elegant shows and decorations. Authentic and usual works from pupils will be displayed. Visitors will see the real stuff. This school doesn't sell superficial image. Pupils are always the main players. It is a school with 'heart'.

It is a pity that my daughter and I can't go to the Open Day because my daughter will take part in the Putonghua Solo Verse-speaking Competition. It is held in Kowloon Tong. I hope we can come back before the closing time of the Open Day. Although I can't be there, I helped with the preparation yesterday. I think support from parents and students is very important.

想問下e家學校還是不是落實執行學生回校後的校內語言只限英文及普通話, 不可以講廣東話.  請問同學之間會唔會偷偷地講廣東話呢??  唔好意思這麼多問題.

opening day見學生之間大部份都係廣東話對話, 有時跟老師也是, 尤其電腦室。

In the lessons, pupils and teachers communicate in English and Putonghua. Even at recess, teachers and the principal talk to them in these two languages. Pupils are encouraged to speak in these two languages among themselves. However, since most of the pupils are Chinese, they may use a little bit of Cantonese with teachers are not around them.  To be frank, don't expect that all the pupils speak fluent and accurate English like those in international schools whose mother-tongue is English or Putonghua. It is pleased that they are not afraid to express themselves in a foreign language. And the school has set up a language-rich environment for them.

謝謝你的回覆.  我都明白, 不過希望小朋友係一個課堂以外都儘量用英語溝通環境成長始終小朋友係學校時間都幾長.

我同老公都好滿意佢地既表演, 阿囡睇到好開心, 同埋d老師同負責既高班姐姐都好好呀, 好有心機教我個囡呀, 我個囡唔捨得走添呀﹗

Some visitors may find the displays a bit messy since nearly all the pupils' works were displayed. However I think it had revealed the school's belief -- all pupils are unite and everybody is of the same importance. Not only the brilliant works were shown. Think from the pupils' point of view, they would be excited and proud to see their works were posted or displayed. And also for the performance. Those pupils who could attend the Open Day were arranged to take part in the performance. Everyone,even the shy ones, would have the opportunity to face the audience. It is an important thing to learn. Agree?
