If you son study in St. Paul Boys, you should know St. Paul Boys is NOT an "English Primary School" by the definition of HK Education Dept. as the subject of Mathematics is teaching by Chinese.

The headmistress clearly stated in the briefing session. Don't you know that???

但係個Briefing session 8月尾先開呢! 我知道有好多人一入到St. Joseph就give up St. Paul.


講真真係有D後悔，因為英文科比較淺，而普通話科就真係好普通。數學科又係用中文教，連英文常識科都係用中文教！

我以為英文教學就係用英文教，哇咁D學校話到明係中文學校未連英文都無得學?

St. Stephen 都有收我個仔，但係我住九龍ma, St. Stephen 太遠啦，學費又咁貴，加埋校車費邊比得起呀!

我都知道有3個以上嘅小朋友放棄St. Paul 而入St. Joseph.

英文常識科要等高年級先轉返英文會唔會太遲?

一般名校聽講已經用普通話教中文，但唔知係唔係未揾到足夠嘅普通話老師，所以要等高年級先話用普通話教學。到時候真係驚中英文都兩頭唔到岸。

IF you are so discontent with the school, you're better find another school for your son.

As a responsible parent, you should check seriously for your concern before making decision. May be your requirement is different from me. I know more than 30 parents of P1 students this year and most of us don't think there is any problem of the language (both English & PTH). Some of them even think the English book is too difficult...  

Different from your case, I know at least 3 parents, who are the old boys of St. Joesph, give up the seats and choose St. Paul Boys this year. Anyway, it's a personal choice to find the most suitable school for your son, right?

May be after you quit, a student from St. Joesph may transfer to St. Paul Boys.

其實真係睇下你對學校既expectation有幾多.

你未正式交留位費之前, 校長o係briefing session已經講得好清楚, 佢地係用漸進式學language.  小一二既課程有1/4係用英文, 小三四就有1/2, 小五六就有3/4.  

至於putonghua, 佢地既rationale係小四至開始中文科用哂putonghua教, 連課堂外同中文老師講野都要用putonghua.  點解要小四? 校長曾經解釋, 小一係一個適應期, 所以用番majority小朋友常用語言-- cantonese (mother tongue) 去上堂.  到左小二, putonghua會加強train 拼音, 打好個基礎.  而小三因為有TSA, 加上用英文上堂既課程多左, 唔想一次過比咁大壓力, 所以留返小四至開始全putonghua.

一到小四, 就冇左putonghua堂, putonghua=chinese lesson.  

可能你會覺得慢, 不過打好d基礎至加多d野唔係更好咩? 而且學校都有一d language方面既課外活動, 都可以強化兩文三語.  

我就覺得個pace ok啦.

我都好同意各家長的貴意見。不過我此終覺得聖保羅係一間咁出名既名校，又話平均每8個小朋友先收一個，咁應該所收既學生質數都有番咁上下啦! 所以話「漸進式」對這班小朋友似乎有點講唔通喎！是否師資方面有些問題？點解要交學費，接受一般津校一樣的教育？直資學校似乎應當水準高一點吧！這只是我個人的疑問，希望同各位家長分享。聖保羅究竟好在哪裏？

Dear Concern_Mom,

Everyone does have different "concerns", and a school can be measured by many standards.  A school does not necessary mean a system to  produce only students with good academic results.  There are many other things that we, as parents, would treasure.

1.  The school's liberal tradition - when the society is heated with the discussion of patrotic study, I can ask my son to study the choices of his two  學長 - 程翔 and 曾德成, or why the school has a Wong Shiu Pun Trophy.
2.  When winning and squeezing the fellow peer for own success is a "norm", my son finds brotherhood from the school.
3.  Yes, there is a HK$3,000 monthly fee, but I do save some 補習費.
4.  Funny enough, not being the best school, learning and facing groundless discrimination in a young age, is a blessing.
5.  The school allows a good space, both for academic and character building, for the kids both for fast and slow runners.   
6.  Is DSS better than SS a "MUST"?
7.  The discussion sometimes must go back to the HK education system.  If we have adopted School Voucher system, there should be less of this kind of debate or concern.

Should you have concerns, you could discuss with the school because this might truly help your son.

By the way, are you a mom concerning your son in St Paul, or are you a mom concerning whether your son can enter St Paul?? It's really wierd that a P1 parent seems to know nothing about the school philosophy & teaching approach before making a decision, and then making such a fuss afterwards... This just looks illogical to me.

聖保羅除了有155年歷史、傳統學校，請問有也具體優點? 例如學術成績出眾呀? 定係運動了得呢? 睇完你D回應，都仲係一頭霧水！咁不如去讀津貼，聽講連D課本一樣喎~! 讀津貼起碼可以慳番$3000去補習啦!

Relax and take it easy, you have plenty of time to make final decision after getting the acceptance.
