If the teachers use more lively and active way to arouse students' interest to learn, the students will be motivated to study by themselves.  e.g. use experiments to let the kids learn Science, use discussions and presentations to learn better English.

Besides, if the kids have developed the habit to read and love to read, they can learn a lot of knowledge through reading by themselves.  This needs to be developed since P.1.
