flostangraphy,
Heard from some friends that there is one centre in Polytechnics' campus in Hunghom.
You may consider that.

I took my kid to
HK Poly U Optometry Clinic for eye checkup when he was 4y,
then from 5y onwards I took him to
General Eye Clinic, HK Society for the Blind
(in Pak Tin, Kln)

once a year.
Both are OK, the latter is lots cheaper (HK$3XX or 4XX vs HK$1X0 @).
HKPolyU's Optom clinic has branches in Hopewell Centre in Wan Chai and also other places. Can check from PolyU's site.

flostangraphy,
仔仔細時我試過有懷疑, 打電話比自己區內的健康院, make appointment好快就可以去健康院做個基本視力測試. 結果係冇事.
你都可以打電話去健康院問下.

thanks tingmum,
yes, we actually did, and the doctor said better check when he is still young anyway. that's why we would like to play safe as well.
thanks a lot!

flostangraphy,
Please do not laugh so early.
When short-sightedness starts to appear, it can come very quickly.
The best way is to impose a limit on the use of computer games and NDS/PSP!!

none of our boys has such video game...
touch wood they won't have any sooner....
moreover, we are one of the very very common family in hong kong which doesn't has any television at home. so they don't stick in front of tv programs after school neither.
do your children have psp/nds?! how do you manage with them to limit the excess?!
i would like to know more as well as i may need to face the same thing in the future...

flostangraphy,
No TV at home??
Are you kidding??
How can you watch the news? Via computer through internet??
It’s absolutely not a good idea to own PSP/NDS!!
The normal way is the “carrot-or-stick” approach.
We may encourage our children to do something else or looking at more distant things
for a while after playing computer games.
If it doesn’t work, we may need to consider setting up password to restrict their access to computer.

ha ha ha, no kidding, we have no TV at home since we are in hong kong, and i haven't owned any tv post since 20yrs...
my wife neither, never push to buy a tv and so our kids only watch tv occasionally at their grand parents' home.
we watch hong kong and france news via internet at home, so not completely lost.
my elder son does ask for a portable video game from time to time... however, when he has to choose and make up his mind for birthday or christmas presents. he still prefer bike, roller, rocket, skate, books...
hope that he will never fancy such PSP/NDS in the close future...

flostangraphy,
Well done!!
It’s very difficult to maintain such “back-to-the-basic” life in HK nowadays.
Bike, roller, rocket, skate and books are definitely better toys than PSP/NDS.
With such “healthy” life, I think the chance for your sons to have either short-sightedness or astigmatism should be relatively lower.
BTW, just curious to know whether your sons can read simple Chinese books at this stage or not?
Are they learning simple Chinese words in the kindergarten now?
Can they write simple Chinese words or their Chinese names?

Camill can read very little.... school started writing this year only... so he is learning very simple chinese and english letters and word, numbers etc. he is progressing little by little... not one of the brightest pupil in the class.
