My general impression of SFA is that SFA is an excellent school with excellent secondary school allocation result (2004):

95.9% ESS rate and 80.2% Band 1 rate
Of 121 boys:
12 Wah Yan, 11 DBS, 3 LaSalle, 21 Ying Wa  & 1 Queens
Of 51 girls:
4 DGS, 4 St. Mary, 2 St. Paul Co-d, 15 Sheung Chi

All the above schools are dream schools to many parents including me and my husband.

The teachers here are supportive and kind-hearted. There are 3 exams every year and take place before major holidays such as before Xmas.

The academic standard are very high. English Maths and General Studies are the competitive edge over other primary schools. Emphasis on some academic activities such as Olympic Maths or school speech are highly encouraged by the school.

However, the music training is not so good here and the homework are more heavy than other schools.

Please correct me if there is any misunderstanding of this school as my sons are not studying SFA.

Hi all,
Thank you for all the meaningful sharing. I have the same case as M仔媽. I like your information, no matter the pros and cons.

Besides the music (i like it), nanabi's comment on APSKT "the English standard is not bad indeed" which is a point to me, can anyone kindly share more the English standard in APSKT.  e.g. How do you grade the kids english standard (written and spoken), or will the kids compulsorily speak english in some lessons, etc ...

各位宣小家長：

這兩天我留意這網上的熱烈討論，給我一個信息，就是要成就一所理想的學校，除擁有辛勤的老師、具潛質的學生外，一羣懂要求、明道理的家長是不可或缺的。
至於有人認為宣小不是英文小學是美中不足，我想以一個準家長的身份，分享一下我的看法！
1. 我從網頁得悉宣小升英中的比例佔98%以上；而分派至超級英中(拔萃、喇沙、女拔、協恩、瑪利諾、聖保羅男女、聖保羅、伊利沙伯)平均達35%。如果程度不夠，又怎能維持呢？
2. 校方挑選一個難度極高的課外活動---音樂(樂器訓練)；作為重點發展項目。其實，它背後的語言，是說明宣小學生在學術上的標準，他們已蠻有信心。
3. 英文的重要性是無容至疑，但用六年的時間去深化未來半世紀必備的中文和普通話，豈不美哉？
4. 過份憧憬英文小學的程度和學養，是否美中不足呢？
剛得知九龍塘宣道小學開放日，各位有心的家長，不妨到場感受一下歡樂的氣氛。

宣小考100名外的就是第二組別學生。你估計一間一條龍的超級英中，它第二組別的學生人數比宣小的多還是少呢？答案昭然若揭。
這又怎可說他(純)是靠音樂實力才能得以進入呢？

宣小在數年前的升中派位中，有2位同學被派到沙田的一間band1尾至band2頭的英中，他們均考第一、二，這間中學校長致電APS校長，讚揚她的學生的表現，校長翻查記錄，發現這二位同學是全校考第尾的。所以校長好有信心地說她的所有仔仔女女都是精英。亦有很多類似的個案，所以在APS成績不是太好的學生，個底都打得好好。
APS確是一間好的學校，當有人刻意中傷APS時，好多家長立即回應反駁，可見家長對學校的支持，雖然家長要付出很大的努力，但真的對結果滿意。我也是APS的家長，我真的好多謝校長和老師，特別是校長，她把學生當自己的子女一樣，學生有任何表演都會到場打氣，又幫6年班補課，好勤力和緊張。特別在升中選校時，她真是好落力。我好感激她。
APS開放日有很多表演架，有時間就來參觀啦！

Hi,,

I am sorry that I think my expression was misleading to some parents.

I don't than I am not satisfied with APS's english standard.  What I try to say is that many parents like to compare it with other top school (mostly english primary).  APS is not a english primary school but its english standard is really high.  

They do not teach other subjects like maths and science in english but the overall english is well taken care of.  I actually think that is an advantage not teaching other subjects in english sometimes.  For example, they study maths in chinese in lower forms.  They build a stronger foundation in understanding the concepts and applications.  Once the students have a founded base, they introduce english maths in the upper form.  It is then easy to switch the language and is good preparation for secondary school.

I also agree that it is also important to look at other things than english.   It also teach chinese in putonghua and the school is all-rounded.

I am happy to see so many APS parents here who is grateful about the school and the staff.  That mean it is a good choice --- at least to me!!

大拔去年也祇得102個冠、亞、季軍獎項 - 宣小音樂真厲害！

校長沒有透露，只因九龍城區可選沙田的英中，其實沙田的英中都好好，唯一是地點問題，所以比較少人選。但在沙田區就競爭好激烈。

In my understanding, KTS, APS and SFA are all very good school. It does be difficult to choose one from them.
To the one who wants to know more about APSKT, a rare open day is on 1-2 July. hope it could be open to the public.

2.        每間小學BANDING是靠多年前學能測驗成績來界定, 並不能顯示學校的實際學術水平.況且過兩三年會重新以學術成績來再界定.
3.        宣小考100名外實力未必會差, 正如add2828指出, 有2位同學全校考第尾的被派到沙田的一間band1尾至band2頭的英中，他們均考第一、二。但追求100%band 1生的英中便怎也不會收band 2生.
4.        請恕我不知一間一條龍的超級英中的第二組別學生人數比宣小的是多還是少, 也不明白這表示什麼.
5.        一條龍的[超級]英中大概只有DBS, St. Paul  Convent 和 St.  Paul co-ed是新辦一條龍, 成龍後的成績是否仍[超級]還有待觀察.:
6.        但一些超級英中(such as DBS, Heep Yun?)門外, 有大把成績最卓越的學生任它選擇, 卻偏就是年年要了一些第二三組別,玩冷門樂器的學生,而這樂器又是英中所缺的，若不是[純]靠音樂實力那是靠什麼?宣小家長很多每月花上數千元學音樂, 總是有原因的,
7.        再重申, 宣小的中英數都是超班, 不用懷疑.又是四大{小學音樂獎庫}之首, 實力非凡,加上連成績非前列的學生的派位也這樣好, 夫復何求.
