If my memory is still reliable, his father had business in England and went back to Norway to marry his mum. His father died when Roald Dahl was still kid. His mother sent him to boarding school according to his father's wish. Every year his mother brought him and his brother sisters to Norway for summer holiday. He worked for Shell UK which sent him to Africa.
