ESF轉制後的收生criteria

正考慮小朋友讀IS / LS，其實plan咗將來點都會出國留學，不過想留小朋友响身邊最少至初中，唔敢放膽主攻IS嘅主要原因有下：

1）擔心國際小學難考（沒有持外國passport）
2）希望小朋友有最基本閱讀中文嘅能力
3）貴嘅IS會成為家庭太重負擔（因考慮生第2名）

想請問有經驗家長嘅意見以供參考，謝謝！

1. 所有學校都難考的了, 除非你玩大抽獎.. 比較而言, 國際學校已經唔係甘難考..
2. 如果你小朋友入讀國際學校, 大概要有額外的輔助 (出去學中文, 或自己好努力甘日日同佢地睇書) , 佢地D中文先會好
3. 努力D賺錢吧..

如果你決定出國讀書,始終考定gcse 比較好,某些本地名校也要他們的學生考gcse .

英國boarding school 和美國私人立中學的學費也加了不少.

Actually it's not true that ESF does not look at foreign passports.  In fact, it is expressly stated in their mandate that:
"In line with the Education Bureau requirements, at least 70% of the total students enrolled will qualify as ‘non-local’, defined as being holders of an overseas passport."

Btw, this is not a new requirement.  So while they can accpet up to 30% HK passport holders, they do look at the passport nationality of the applicants and it is taken into consideration.

Although ESF take possession of foreign passport into consideration, they do not differentiate between different foreign nationalities, unlike those country specific international schools which only give priority to their own citizens. This could be significant for foreign children who are not from the usual western countries, say from Vanuatu {:1_1:}

In fact, a lot of Hong Kong Permanent ID holder may also hold a foreign passport.  Many ESF students are actually ethnic Chinese (from Hong Kong) with a Australian, Canadian, British, or US passport.

This is true. I was saying ESF does not differentiate between Australian, Canadian, British, Indian, or even Vanuatu passports, but those country specific international schools do {:1_1:}

May be this needs some clarification.

Actually, if your kid is admitted for the academic year of 2014/15 and 2015/16, your kid will still be subvented until he/she finishes year 13. Please see here for the details  http://www.esf.edu.hk/letter-parents-subv-7June13
Kids admitted after that will not be eligible for the subvention, the fees are speculated to be around 23% higher than the subvented fee.

ESF schools, like other private or international schools review their fees every year or periodically, so the fees would be slightly adjusted every now and then. For example, last year's fee for year 1 was around $6,600 but this year's fee is already $7,000. (this has nothing to do with the subvention)

So if your kid gets in for the coming academic year, he/she will still be subvented until year 13.

Of course......... No..... B'cos Kindergarten never had subvention, what was quoted was for those who used to receive subvention.......

Hello!
Can I ask, if my child gets into ESF Kindergarten next year 2013-2014 will he still be subvented when he gets into Primary 1 which is year 2016-2017? Thank you!

No, the children currently studying K1 in ESF kindergartens (who will start P1 in August 2015) is the last group of children who will enjoy subsidized fees.

Having said that, you should bear in mind the following:-

(1) The subvention constitutes only around 20% of the school fees, so its removal will imply a 20% fee hike, assuming all other factors remain unchanged.

(2) The two private independent schools under the ESF umbrella, namely Renaissance and Discovery College do not receive subvention, so its removal should not affect them.

For your reference, the following are the current fee levels ...

Discovery College P1-P6 : $83,200 per annum
Renaissance College P1-P6 : $86,800 per annum
Foundation Schools P1-P6 : $70,000 per annum
