One of my neighbour is studying in St. Joseph.  He is a polite and quiet boy.  His mum is a full time mum.

本來講教育是不想拉到錢上的,講錢是想知道什麼是現今教育最低服務,什么是附加值。資料來源是上网及參觀,如果家長可以報料,令學校資料透明度高些,對大家都好。

官津直資的課程是幾乎一樣的,在政府的五指山下,小三要考TSA,小六參加政府的'升中試',中一就參加分班試等。學校不能單提供IB課程,一定要參加3-3-4。因為政府是提供了錢給這類學校的。

私立/private independant/IS就可以有自已的自由度,弘立/ VSA可以自已決定怎樣辦學,不參加政府的考試等等。至於IS提供的是本國的課程和服務水準。

官津校如st. Jo /lasa,私立如DG,預算那麼少也能提供好服務,值得贊揚考獎:本港教育水準高。

預算比官津高的各种直資、私立、IS, private independant school, 如維記/弘立/耀中/RC,;卻也有官津沒財力提供的好服務,如:

• 小班教學,有些學校每班學生可以少至15人,師生關係密切,老師可以教得更深入,可以就學生的能力幫她一把。(官津直資老師工作量大得沒時間照顧每個學生,怪不得補習社大行其道,好像正規學校沒盡責任似的。)
  
• 低班有助教彧雙班主任,幫助能力未達標的學生,有的學校甚至有專門幫助學習困難學生的老師,
  
• 學生能根據自己的能力，靈活選擇不同程度的科目組合,學生數學好可以跳級與高年級上課,中文科也一樣。(不要以為這是IS專有的,大陸的名中學也一樣有,香港一般學校資源並不能提供這樣的靈活度。)
  
• 有的雙語學校如VSA/弘立提供的是沉浸式中英文教育,提供有利的語言環境。有孩子讀過維記雙語班的家長應知沉浸式是多麼有效。那些只靠Net teacher每星期3、4小時的英語not good enough.
• 有專業的圖書館管理者就學科單元介紹適當的閱讀書籍,
  
• 有正式的輔助課程包括speech and drama,電腦輔助專題研究reseach skill,甚至有職業導向的課程如汽車設計,cooking,
   
• 中學有專業的career master,知道怎樣就孩子的職業性向介紹大學試前幾年的選科,怎樣包裝學生以便得到大學入門的資格。(不要envy IS的學生大學入得好,他們可是有專業的建議。不信下次參觀問一問。)
  
• 校舍比較好,有泳池、飯堂。
  
• 有各种外展或往外地的團体活動。

社會改變得很快,學校的教育也應跟得上時代的改變。尤其是已有更好的水準/服務可以參照學習。當然前題是少個錢也不行。

孩子生得越來越少,家長的教育程度越來越高。再保持現狀,十年二十年後是什么光景?(幸好小班教學來了,現狀也許會改變)。

情況就像吃飯,太爺那代有飯吃就行了,爺爺那代要有白飯青菜,爸爸那代有湯有飯有菜,我們這代什麼都有,孩子那代更看重建康食品。如果"教育"這餐廳只管吃飽就算,怎成呢?

其實越來越多家長願意上"要付費"的學校,而這類學校也在"壟斷"的教育體系中開了缺口。

話拉遠了,看看學校在每個學生身上收了多少學費(不是家長付了多少), 再看看學校提供什麼服務。

I'm still under consideration as my child is K2.  But ISF is too expensive.  Besides, I still hesitate because both (ISF & VSA) has no track record (only has junior secondary).  No information for university allocation.

St Stephen is more homework & difficulty than VSA.  
If you get a seat at St Paul Boy & St Joseph,  St Paul Co-edu & DBSPD? Which one you will choose ?

3. St. Stephen Stanley - quite demanding, far away
4. St. Paul Co-edu - very demanding, distance is OK
5. St. Paul boys - quite demanding, close to my home, but it's a boy school
6. St. Joseph - quite demanding, distance is OK, it's a boy school too
7. DBSPD - too far away

The above is just my personal opinion and it's my ranking.  I don't interpret anyone is better than the others.

Personally, I like VSA more than St. Stephen.  It's because most VSA students love their school and enjoy to learn in VSA.  Besides, most of them love reading so much.

I met 2 St. Stephen students before, 1 is P4 and the other one is P2.  I found that their homework / dictation are quite difficult which may beyond their abilities.

P4 boy has a reading comprehension homework related to "Leader".  I found that the P4 boy cannot understand many vocabulary and he was very difficult to answer the questions.  I remember the 1st question is "What are the qualities of a Leader?"

P2 girl has chinese dictation and it covered more than 50 chinese words.  E.g. mouth, hope, mature, etc.  (sorry I haven't writing board at home).  Actually, she always mix some words and she just memory the words and cannot follow 筆順．:-|
