中學轉入國際學校

我想中學開始轉女兒入國際學校, 因很多朋友, 老師都說佢嶴creative, 在國際學校可以發揮得更加好, 心儀RCHK, 因比較經濟, 如果父母半身不是英文非常好, 申請會有困難嗎? 請指點.. 謝謝.

RC adopts IB. IB is demanding and language intensive. You have to assess whether your child's English language can cope with the curriculum. If she is not up to the required standard and cannot get much support from parents, she will have a hard time.

I am not sure whether any international school in Hong Kong would have policies regarding the English standard of parents. It would appear to me that the English standard of the student him/herself is of more importance.

It is not wise to merely think that a child with creativieness would be more happy at an international school. It should be noted that international schools use English to teach, and students are expected to be very out-spoken and self-motivated.

If your child is not particularly strong in English, she might find it frustrating being in the same class with children that speak native or near-native English.

I think parents' English standard isn't necessary a main concern to the school...of course it will definitely help with communication and cooperation.  When we went for the interviews (in my case my no.1 is changing from primary local to secondary international), the interviews were only for my son, and I was only called on at the end to see if I had any question.  But I agree the environment will be very intensive with Eng (not just using it for play, but for serious studies) and the more I learn about IB, the more I think maybe even I can't do it....it can be very demanding and the expectations can be set real high.  Welcome more comments and chatting around this topic.  We just went through that decision!

首先真的多謝你們的資料和寶貴意見. 我女兒的性格好動開朗, 喜歡新事物和結交新朋友, 對適應新環境的能力也很好; 英語方面, 由於她現在就讀的學校對英文科的要求頗高, 除了讀高一級的英語課程外, 常識科也是採用英文課本和英語授課, 而她亦一向不害怕面對外籍人士說英語, 所以這兩方面不是太擔心.

其實, 她於現在的學校學習得很開心, 沒有太大壓力而學業成績屬中等. 問題只在我, 怕給她選擇了一個不能發揮長處的環境. 對於IB, 我不是太認識, 看來對喜歡思考和創作的小朋友的確不錯. 真令人煩惱 .....

但係如果讀開local小學, 上international 中學會唔會英文唔夠好, 可能intl 中學未必收呢...
我都煩緊..現在煩緊nursery啫, local 定係international...
如果遲d先入international又驚英文底打得唔好, 日後未必good enough english to cope with studies...

英語好唔好，同課本讀高幾多級冇關，真係要比較，恐怕國際小學學生的英語，都可能比本地中學學生好。
唔係話想潑人冷水，而係想家長要多方面都衡量，我講幾句好聽的說話好易，反正孩子唔係我的，講完唔駛負責。

要在中學階段考入國際學校其實唔易，筆試面試，全部都主打考學生英語能力，不過就算真係考到，都唔好諗住過海就係神仙，我識有幾個本來在本地名校讀得好好的孩子，在中學階段千辛萬苦考入國際學校，但都讀得麻麻，我真係希望家長們要有心理準備。
除非你係諗住入某幾間 ( 唔好講名，大家知邊 D 啦 ) 專收 band 2-3 學生插班的，咁這類學校唔難入，而且佢地就有英語輔導班比學生惡補英語。

Local school parents whose kids just finished P6 and want to switch to IS secondary, there is a chance for you in RCHK now.  The school posted an announcement on its website on Jul 3 as below:

RCHK has limited vacancies at year 8 for the school year commencing on 21st August 2007. Applications are invited from students who are proficient in written and spoken English.

Please note, local school Form 1 = IS year 8.  If your kid is getting into F1 in Sept. 2007, you may try to apply.
