Hello Enoch's Mom,

My daugther has just transferred to ICQM in the 2nd semester of P2. I agree the school fee is ralatively expensive when compare to sub\ gov school. However, I believe the primary school is the critical foundation period of one's school life. That is why I decided to let my daugther to study in this school. I have 2 kids also.

Actually there are some other discussion topic on ICQM, pls check pervious discussions.

Of course I believe this is the best school to me and my daugther.

The only problem of this school is the school bus. In order to save the operation cost, the school bus has many stops and hence, the students who lives remote place will spend a lot of time on transport. For example, I live in Ho Man Tin, it takes one hours for my daughter to goto school. Finally we decided to send her to school ourself. But she needs to take the school bus after school. Some parents, they hire taxi together. It saves a lot of time.

Other than this problem, I like the school very much. The student enjoy the school life very much as the teachers, school staff and the classmates are very friendly. The principal Mr.Chan is humourous.

I can't give too much comments as I am a new parent to this school. But I have collect quite a lot of information of ICQM before.

I know it's a difficult decision. And may God bless you.

Sorry, typo.
It should be 2nd semester of P1.

It is not easy to get the seat. I wrote few letters to the school and had an interview with the school headmaster.

My son is accepted by ICQM and will be P.1 student in the coming Sept 05, I also agreed with you that we should have a website to share opinions.

I am also interested with this school but cannot click info about the school information from its website for several months. Is the school website still under construction?

Dear All

My daughter is in P.1.  She is having a happy life in ICQM in the past half year.  Apart from all the good comments like good & caring teachers, activity approach of study, good moral education, good music training for students......., I do find out some shortcomings of the school:

1.  Curriculum seems a bit too easy.

2.  Not much outings & extra-curricular activities

3.  Not much sport activities except ping-pong.

4.  Teachers are too busy.  It's difficult to look for them if kids got problelms.

5.  School bus has too many stops.  I have to send & pick up my girl myself.

6.  School web-site is not well developed.  Parent & Teacher Association has not been formed.  Parents have limited way to voice opinions or ask for school policies.

However, the school is new & all these can be tolerable.  What do others think?

Sorry, I prefer to discuss the topic in this BK forum.  The other one seems a bit complicated.  A virus message keeps flashing while I click on that forum.

Thank you for sharing. You said the curriculum seems a bit too easy, is it easier than traditional primary schools in general?

About other areas, I think it is tolerable at the moment as ICQM is a new school and we must give her some time to develop.

Moreover, AWG's new website is great! I don't mind discussing either in the new website or BK's. Both of them will be used. :wink:

You said ICQM accept children with special needs, I haven't heard about it. May I know where did you get such information? Do you mean children with disabilities or gifted child? If you see 小學概覽2004, for the sub-item 'Inclusive Education' under 「學校特色」, what they wrote is 'Nil'. The curriculum is similar to normal P.1 standard. However, there's no dictation & limited copying homework. English words are taught according to phonics. My girl is bi-lingual & has learnt phonics in kinder. English readers in the book list are simple English ones. Thus it seems a repetition of what she has learnt. Maths is taught in English & is still limited to very simple calculation. The aim is to let the students get used to the vocab of Eng. Maths. Thus my girl feels a bit boring. May be the standard of Maths will be higher in the 2nd semester. Anyway, I prefer learning like this to spoon-fed teaching. My girl has more time to read books by herself. This may be a more effective way to improve language standard & explore knowledge. Thus parents of this school should not be too dependent on the school curriculum. Students are expected to do a lot of reading by themselves.

如果課程與一般小一無異，我覺得沒有問題，看來你囡囡的學術程度頗高呢！

我亦反對填鴨式地催谷小朋友，我相信教育的目的是首先培養小朋友的學習興趣，然後使他們學會主動學習，終生受益。如果功課太繁重，便有可能令他們失去學習興趣；如音小的功課量不多，家長便有較多時間因應自己小朋友的需要加強其他方面的訓練，例如你說的英語閱讀，或報讀其他興趣課程等。

It so nice tp have so many ICQM parent to share opinion here.

I accept simple curriculum because:
1. my daughter (P1 student) now can manage their homework even without my supervision. It builds up her confidence.

2. I prefer no dictation for P1 or P2 student, I rather my daughter to spend more time for reading than repeating the dictation for few words.

3. As the english teacher is a native english speaker, I believe my daughter eng standard will be uplife further. She is also a biliangual student and she has also complete her phonic study in kinder.
