I received a letter from ESF (BHS) today, saying they cannot offer my child "an interview for a guaranteed place". However, they offer her "an interview for Year 1 entry list (if she is successful at interview)". Then they gave us an interview date and time to confirm.

Anyone knows what exactly it means? Do you know who will be offered "an interview for a guaranteed place", and around how many children would be on the guaranteed list and how many on the "entry list"? Just wanted to have an idea where my little one is in the queue. Thanks.

Same situation here.  I GUESS guaranteed places are for those with nomation rights, sibliings, parents staff, Cat 1 priority etc.  And I heard that entry list may last for years.  Maybe 1 day when your kid is in Yaer 4 in another school, ESF will tell you they have a place for your kid.

Oh for years, that's really good to know (sigh!)

May I ask whether you are in Cat 1 or 2? I am in Cat 1 with no priority.

回覆:ESF Entry List?

If the school has 60 seats, they will send out interview with guaranteed seats of 60; then they will send around 10 interview with entry list.  Surely, the top 60, some may have other offer from other school, and some cannot pass the interview.  The released seats will go to entry list, so very high chance to get the offer

We are non-local (staying in HK on work permit). Neither the family nor the kid speaks Cantonese. No sibling, not in ESF kindy.

I think letters went out on Nov 23 (Friday) and most people received their letters on Nov 24 (Sat) or 26 (Monday).  If you haven't received your letter yet, you should call the school in your catchment and confirm with Admissions.

Btw, Year 1 entry list is not bad at all. It's not quite as good as a guaranteed space as you will need to wait a bit longer, even if your child passes the interview.

Schools typically will invite another 10-15% of their total places as back-up since by experience, they know that some will fail or release the offered space (as they get another school offer elsewhere).  So chances are VERY good that you will get a place before next Sep.

Quite a few ppl I knew who were offered a Year 1 entry list spot last year even got a confirmed offer within a month after their interview.  (Btw this year, guaranteed spots will be told the results by mid-Feb and will have until Feb 22 to confirm and pay deposit.)

Strange term. If its guaranteed space why bother with an interview. If its still subject to change, why called it guaranteed space.

What u have to do is well prepared for the interview and to be patient. Once u have passed the interview, u will be placed in the waiting list and will contact u when a place is available (someone turn down the offer; or someone failed in the interview). Some will get the offer after first round interview; a few may hear nothing until August. even after the school starts.
Good Luck.
