Re: URGENT!!! St paul convent vs canossa primary school(HK)
No matter which school you are going to choose, both are typical "good" schools, it means you must join the game - you and yr daughter have to work very hard. These schools all telling you they wants the children have happy school life (all schools say the same thing!) So SPC has indeed given less homework when compare to Canossa (CP). My friends' kid is studying in CP P.4 and had 18 homeworks during the last Easter(of course inclusive of some corrections and little things that add up to 18), but she's lucky her daughter loves to do homeworks and likes the school a lot.
My other friend's daughter studying in SPC, sh said their homeworks are considered "little" and easy, but the exam/test is more difficulty than what they learn, so she has to give her a lot of extra exercises and tutorial classes in order to keeo good result. Her daughter is always a "tired" kid whenever I see her!!
Chin/Eng/Math are must pass subjects in order to go up one grade. Both schools' parents are trying very hard to maintain a 90 something average to secure a space to hi school.
My other friend's kid was studied in CP years ago, her average was around 70-80, she said her teachers were considered her not a hard working kid and she couldn't make it to the hi school.
There's no schools will tell you how difficult it will be when your kids come to their schoosl, because they know the parents will "train" the kids anyway!
According to my friends children, some are studying in SPC, CP, St Paul Co-ed, St. Joseph and Marymount, all need to take certain tutorial subjects to maintain good results, stay home on most Sundays.
If your daughter is smart, both will be good. And if she is a bit on active side, choose SPC.
One more thing, my personal opinion : Chinese is actually more difficult than English, if you want your kid to have good Chin foundation, choose CP, eventhough CP use Chinese as the teaching medium, CP has a very high standard of English.
