I want to ask the same question - what would you choose if you get to choose again? your comment about local schools is hardly positive (unless "training 考試精英" is meant to be a positive comment).. thanks!

There is no turning back in real life but if I have to choose again, I will look for an international school with good academic standards / results. If there isn't any such school that accepts my child, I think will still change to the traditional school!

I faced a similar difficult choice couple years ago, ICS vs a top ranking traditional school.  I finally took ICS.  Everybody around me thought I was crazy, some even privately commented that I would regret.
During these years, I always rethink the same question:  did I make a wrong choice for my son?  It's hard to say.  My son is the type that could be pushed 「谷」, so I believe that if he was in that traditional school, he should be able to perform pretty well.  But now in ICS, there is not much pressure from homework and exams.  So beside fulfilling the school requirements, he still got plenty of time to explore his interests.  He read a lot in the past few year, probably close to a thousand books, of varoius topics.  He has time to do sports, plays with his younger sister and even daydreaming.  Most importantly, his curiorsity and motivation to learn is very strong.  He would (and could afford) hours to research on things that intetest him.  At this point, I don't know whether he would do well in public exams and get into a good university in the future (there may be a better certainty if I chose the traditional school for him), but putting him in ICS gave him a happy childhood and balanced life which to me, is more important than academic achievement.
One last thing to note, Chinese.  ICS's Chinese standard is low, honestly.  But if you register the kid in Chinese tutoring class and encourage him to read more Chinese books, it should be able to keep him at par with average English primary school students.  But be realistic, there is no way to keep up with the best students in Chinese primary schools.
Hope this helps.

My dad face the same dilemma some decades ago, ESF vs Local elite school, at the end he chose local school for me. I did well academically, went to uni smoothly and everything went just as plan. But I must tell you, if I could make the choice again, I would opt for IS. Because apart from academic achievement, I sucks in all other aspects, I need to learn many of these surviving skills from the sketch in my 30+s.

好八卦咁,去另一個 topic 睇,嘩!果個自稱喇叭家長的人,把口好刻薄!相對,又未見過 ICS 有人咁口臭。

In ICS elementary, while there is no formal exams (except Chinese), there are class works and quizzes from time to time to make sure students understand what they are learning.  These classworks and quizzes are sent home after they are marked so parents will know how their kids are doing at school (but there usually wouldn't be a score.  Instead, correct ones will be checked while incorrect one will have comments or questions on the side to encourage students to rethink for a better answer).  There is a computerized test on English and Math in the beginning and end of the year to assess the students' abilities in these subjects.  The results will show a percentile against all students in US of the same grade (who particiate in the test).  There will be a report card sent home at the end of each term showing the grades (1 to 4, 4 being the best) and teachers' comments for each subject.  However, there wouldn't be any ranking.  This is to avoid comparison among students but rather, focusing on your own progress.

其實樓主若不說說自己对兩間學校的觀感和自己的考慮因素,而及小朋友的特質。我估大家好難畀到佢實際的意見 ...
可能就是因為樓主沒說清楚考慮同因素而導致一些負面回應。
