My 2 kids attended / attending this course. You have to accompany the child and as you pay the fee month by month, there is no long term commitment.

I HIGHLY recommend this course especially no wthey renovated it.

This YAMAHA course is designed with strong children music learning thoery support.  There is a team of music experts reviewing / designing this course in Japan. I heard this from a lecturer teaching in the Baptist Music Dept.

It helps building the child's sensitivity in music and esp. the hearing pitch ability. This cannot be totally compensated from simply learning playing piano. The age is the prime time to do this.

The most challenging part is the support from parents.  Drop out rate is high if you always send the helper or grandparent to there instead of yourself.  The child needs support from parent when practising at home. If you can accompany the child in the class and practices ( about twice a week), I am sure your child can benefit a lot.

I only hope that I had courses like this when I was young.

FYI, I love music but I cannot play the piano.

authenticseelai,

Thanks a lot for your detail expression. My son attended the first section(20 lessons). He is not willing to practise at home. Because I'm a working mom, not free to accompany with him for practising. It's really a good course, I enjoy the lessons very much but I also feel stressful for both of us because practising is needed before every lesson. So I'm thinking to drop off the course or not.

After your supportive comment, I think I need to work with my boy, otherwise he will give up without doubt.

I can't really follow.  Dose the JSAC asked by Jenny refers to the 兒童音樂高級進階班 at TOM LEE ?

My kid is attending NJXC.  What I understand is JSAC & NJXC are the extension courses for JMC.  But the former is designed for the JMC graduates who have very good performance in music.  Parents will accompany students only during the first six months and after that, students have to attend the class by their own.

I think Mamimia refered to the JMC as there would not be such questions if they finished this course.

Mamimia,

You have to ask yourself and the child, whether you enjoy the class. Different people have different preference. Music may not be the cjoice for everyone. Concerning going to the course, some people send the fathers.  My brother-in-law is the one to go with his son and now they are with the BK 4. We all discovered that he likes music. Some people will employ a teacher(piano) to help the child practising.

So ask your son whether he likes going there. If he says yes, explain to him the responsibility of practising.  When my daughter was in the course, I had to scold her as well and she might cry sometimes but everytime, she would tell me that she wanted to continue.

I am a working mum as well. Try to arrange your time and accomapny the child. This was one of the reason why my daughter wanted to continue. Enjoy the classes together. As long as the child can follow the main progress, the rest is not important. Pls don't compare your child's performance with the others.  Interest course is for enjoyment.

Now I am "repeating" the course with the younger kid. I realize/ understand more about this course and I really appreciate it.  If time allowed, I would enroll the 2 kids into JXC together, later when the younger kid finish the JMC.

You know your kid and you understand whether he enjoys music.

authenticseelai,

Your experienced opinion is very valuable. 'Interest class is for enjoyment' is a strong point that I seldom count it in.
I enjoy the time shared with my son in the course. At the beginning, I think my son is quite talent in music because he likes singing very much when he was very young. He can create some songs by his own too.

However, he is not very concentrated in the class. I do found learning differences among children in the class, some younger girls perform better because they are more attentive and obedient. Sometimes I scolded my son for his bad performance and it declined his interest in attending the course. He doesn't answer me whether he wants to continue the course. I think he is worry too.

I had a review and hope it's not too late to rebuild his confidence and interest in music.

Thanks again for your great sharing!

agreed that children are different and there is no point to compare.

one thing i have observed over the two-year JMC class with different groups (coz my kid have moved from one to another due to venue change).... if the kid really doesn't show any interest even in the part of 唱音 (singing dms, tfs, .... while the tutor playing the piano), parents have to re-think if it is still worthwhile to continue the course.  唱音  is the most interesting part for the day.  the tutuor is usually making it very lively and all children are always highly stimulated at that moment.  if a kid still ignores the tutor or 呵欠連連, his interest level ,may not be in music but at least in JMC, is not too high.  (Mind you, kid is required to 唱音 individually in the final assessment.)
