From my teaching point of view:
It is better to play once to them (or let them listen to recording) and guide them tell the characteristic of the piece, figure out the most difficult part, know the form of the piece, find patterns in pitches and rhythm, all these will make their reading job easier. Some older students has the ability to do all these through sight reading themselves, which is good.
The most inefficient way is to help them read note by note. |
