Hi Smartyou

我都想知澳洲讀大學,1年洗費要預幾多錢?

Sydney Uni's program for nuturtion includes Bachelor and master and it takes 5 years in total.
Cost is AUD40,000

See website http://sydney.edu.au/courses/bac ... ition-and-dietetics

Note all medicinal/ law related courses are most expensive.

想去Australial讀fondation course, Which one is better?
ANU, Melbourne U or Monash University
If you have good grades choice Melbourne University, it has a good program. ANU is in Canberra, very boring and almost no life there despite it's higher ranking in the QS time ranking, that's because its faculty had a noble laureate. In Australia it is well known that Melbourne University is one of the best, also it is within the Group 8.

都係私校?如有passport,点考selective school如North Sydney Girl's High? Thx..

This school is very competitive, it is now about 90% asian, everyone who went there has a HONG KONG like mindset, they go to coaching colleges since primary school.

The major point of entry is at Year 7 (i.e. F1) so you seat the scholastic test called Selective School Testing in Year 6, if you enter in other years it becomes a lot harder as these schools have a limit for the number of students it takes on board. Once you go past the year 7 mark, you have to do the below:

[p=21, null, left]There are very few vacancies in each year. Selection is based on testing and assessment by the school enrolment Selection Committee of the applicant's school reports and any other supporting documentation supplied with the application.

[p=21, null, left]A written test, reading, mathematical reasoning and abstract reasoning together with possible interview may form part of the selection process.

Exact info: http://web2.northsydgi-h.schools ... ic/years-8-12-entry

But I studied at a Private girl's school in Sydney, I wasn't smart enough to go to a selective high school but my parents could afford to send me to private luckily. I just studied hard and got into Sydney University's Bachelor of Commerce program. North Sydney Girl's is an academically driven school (actually all selective high schools are) plus a lot of them are 80-90% asian.

Hello brother4, I suggest doing chiropratic course or veterinary science or speech pathology.
Chiropratic course because in universities in HK do NOT offer this. Chiropractors are in demand in HK, make good money and HK insurance companies allows you to claim so you get a steady client base.

Occupational therapy and speech pathology is a growing trend due to increased health focus in HK and needs for special education.

I myself migrated to Australia when I was 9, at that time I completed P.4 term 1 at Good Hope School. To be honest I think this is a better age because I am still able to read, speak and write Cantonese. Despite my proficiency and my Chinese writing is probably at a level of a F.1-F.2 student. If you go too early, your child will likely lose the ability to be able to read and write Chinese. My younger brother left after K2 and my Mum had me and my brother attend Chinese school. My older sister didn't need to as she completed F.1, my Mum didn't see the need. My younger brother HATED it because he was always left behind and there was so much dictation and rote learning.
It's better that your kids leave HK around P.3 because by that time, they get used to rote learning and retain some level of Chinese, and yet still young enough to immerse into the Australian culture.

Referring to the official website http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/le ... ent/iandosstuds.php
International students cannot go to selective high schools in NSW. e.g. look at the Top school James Ruse http://www.jamesruse.nsw.edu.au/education/admissions

No public selective high school in NSW accepts international students

請問澳洲係咪都係 中3 學期尾 選科 > 中四讀?  ...
I am a graduate of NSW system, and I refer to Sydney.
For the HSC. It is better you complete F.3 in HK and you will likely have to repeat F3 again for half a year because AU academic calendar is Jan to Dec unlike HK which is Sept to July. You select the subjects you take for the HSC (i.e. HK's DSE) at the end of Year 10 (i.e. F4). You study those subjects in Year 11 - 12 (i.e. F5-6) Also at my high school in Year 11, I had an option to still change and alter my subjects I wanted to study in Year 12.

There is a different name for each state:
NSW (Sydney is capital) - HSC
Victoria (Melbourne is capital) - VCE
Queensland (Brisbane is capital) - OP/IBD

Refer to this site http://bettereducation.com.au/SchoolRanking.aspx

I think smartyou mentioned this site when you want to understand more about academic rankings.

The thing is no matter what state in Australia you are in, the high schools which will accept international students have a "MA MA DEI" so-so reputation, e.g. in NSW, there are very expensive boarding schools like SCOTCH or KNOX which has not performed in recent years but the better non-boarding schools also don't accept international students.
Personally I think having mainlanders is not a problem if they are just boarders since most boarders are either from overseas or rural Australia. At the popular universities, there are always ALOT of mainlanders (I mean China is the most populous country in the world). I attended University of Sydney back from 2003-2006, I did a business degree, many mainlainders. You cannot avoid it in Australia, what's more important is who your kid hang around with and whether he or she only stick to the HK or mainland or Taiwan crowd.

Hi smartyou, 我兒係HK讀緊P2, 係公民,一路煩緊應該幾歲返澳洲讀書,只能我陪他回澳洲,爸爸要在港工作, ...

I left HK in 1997 when I was 9 (i finished term 1 of P4, and enter P4 and repeated half a year), by then I was able to read, write and speak Cantonese and because I had a solid Chinese foundation, I continued Saturday Chinese school to sustain my level of Chinese. I think going to Australia is better if you have at least done 3 years of primary school in HK so you benefit from the Chinese and Mandarin. I fitted in quite well academically but because I went a good public primary school and an academic private school; there are many asian kids so I hung out with the Asian kids a lot more due to common culture, interests etc.

I have an older sister who left HK when 11 and entered a English as Second Language specialised school in Year 7 and she struggled with English a lot more.

My younger brother who left HK when 4 so he finished K2, he adjusted the most and very ABC but he can only speak Cantonese and he normally speaks English to my parents and my Parents speak to him in Cantonese. My brother has the most caucasian friends because he adapted to Australian lifestyle, Australia really really LOVE sports, if you don't you get left out of a lot of conversations and activities during high school.

So arriving in Australia too young means you lose out the bi-lingualism you would have otherwise benefitted from. I don't think that would be a good idea considering there is a Free trade agreement between China and Australia and the old Prime Minister Kevin Rudd spoke perfect Mandarin.

So I think you should consider going to Australia at around age 8-9.
