Can anyone share your experience introducing the Geronimo Stilton series storybooks to your kids? At what age do they start reading those books? Even for some kids with wide English vocabularies and able to literally sound out or know the meaning of most of those books, cognitively I am not sure how old the kids need to be to understand the story itself, or really make sense with the story??

after reading ORT stage 11 ..he proceed to read magic tree house at 6.....
he had not much interest..
when he was 7,
he loves G stilton very much when i first introduced to him..
he can finish a book within 3 days..
honestly, he doesn't know some meaning of wordings, at seat 4/ page..

he will guess or skip it...but he could get the whole picture of story with fun.

ps.. i have 3 or 4 wordings per page that i dont know, too

我囡一年級下學期開始睇老鼠記者中文版, 二年級上學期睇英文版. 我好少過問佢明唔明啲字, 因為:

1) 如果佢唔明, 佢唔會鍾意睇
2) 將心比己, 如果我每睇一本書之後都有人問我內容, 仲抽問啲字點解, 我會覺得索然無味, 寧願揀啲淺淺哋, 冇乜生字嘅書睇
3) 只要有興趣, 本書佢唔會只睇一次, 我囡好鍾意Roald Dahl, The Witches, Danny the Champion of the World, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory呢啲佢已經翻睇咗2次或以上, 每睇一次咪又明多啲, 所以唔担心.

只要小朋友鍾意就由得佢睇啦, 唔駛諗太多, 反正圖書館有得借, 又唔使俾錢.

Agree, my son likes to read Dairy of Wimpy kid, I never ask him whether he understands the content or not. Same as the audit, we can understand more when we read one more time. Even you understand the words, it doesn't you understand the conception;

My son finished the whole series of G Stilton last summer, before he started P1. I didn't ask him the meaning of the words and i thought he could get the whole picture after reading the stories. He enjoyed the stories a lot and he told me that there were some words that are deliberately mis-spelt, e.g. famouse instead of famous.

He finished ort stage 12. Then he read magic tree house, beast quest, horrid henry, dinosaur cove and time hunters before G Stilton. I tried to introduce him to Stilton after magic tree house but he was not ready for it at that time.

I think stilton requires higher cognitive understanding than the other series i have mentioned. But every kid is different. You can give it a try first. If he is not ready yet, keep it and leave it for a later time.

Thanks everyone for your replies... I have also tried to introduce Oxford story tree/ Tree Top... As I see he's done with the ORT stage 9, but he's not very interested in chapter books...I am getting some second hand chapter books to try a soft introduction to him.
Are G Stilton books leveled?

ORT stage 9 and GS has a big gap. Early chapter book readers should try something simpler, eg captain underpants, horrid henry, magic tree house, magic school bus, Junie B Jones

The more bizzare a thing is, the less mysterious it proves to be.

You may try Oxford Robin series. They are very interesting, but not chapter books.

Horrid Henry early readers, Usbone series are good for younger kids.

Stage 10-12 are the Tree Top series. He's not very interested.

You can take a look at the 'time chronicle' series which are staged at 10-12. They are stories about grown-up Kipper. You can find it in the public library or i've seen them in dymocks. There are 6 books in each stage.

My son didn't really follow the ORT books. I guess he's just read up to stage 7 or so.

Then, I started reading G Stilton with him.
After reading 2.5 books with him togeher, he started to read them by himself, he was a P.1 boy by then.

He could finish 1 book in less than 1 hr, and he laughed out loud while reading it (but I believe he didn't know every single word).

After reading 20+ G Stilton books, I introduced Magic tree house series to him.
He loved them as well.

I guess you don't need to mind whether there are 'gaps' between ORT and the chapter books, just let your child read, or read with him.
If he finds the story interesting, he'll read it regardless of its 'level'.

Hi, May I know if G Stilton books divide into different stages? How many books in a series? I bought a few for my daughters from bookshop, did not realised it is in a series or don't know how to make a sequence for her to read.

There are at least two versions of Geronimo Stilton: the comic version is suitable for younger kids while the chapter book version is suitable for older kids.

Each title is an individual story, though it may refer to other incidents (in 1 or 2 sentences) happened in other titles sometimes.
There is no need to read in sequence.
