Hello CarrieTse,

我女想於 Sep, 2013　到英國升 year 10,
經你咁講，我都唔會考慮比佢出去學琴的了，
睇下佢搵到邊間學校先算，到時在學校有得學就學，
冇得學的話就只好放下，不過話晒學琴都係考英國試的，
想來應該學校都可以安排到掛？
因佢自少有學琴，唔想佢擺低姐。　

你係咪陪兩個仔在英國讀書的呀？　你覺得藉唔藉得？　生活悶唔悶？

I am accompanying ONE son Year 8 this year.  He comes from a top band 1 HK boy school, therefore, he has no problem here.   His school is very good,  no bullying, his classmates are middle class, like Chinese.  They came to shake hand with my son and introduce themselves during lunch time on the first day!  
I am a full time house wife, therefore, have nothing to do in HK.  I can stay here with my relatives.   I am not boring at all.

My son will start boarding in Year 9 next year.

Regarding learning piano, I think you don't need to quit.  It's very common to arrange music instrument lessons in school.  Most of the boarding house has an old piano in the common area.  Well, without parent's custody, I am not sure if your girl will practise very often.  

People here will not jump grade for exam.  They do one by one.  You will be happy to know that the ABRSM fee is much cheaper than HK.

強國人入侵大學，消費驚人，吧令到我個埠由無唐貨舖變了有兩間，重要其中一間廣大了，早上見很多中國人返學。

Planning to send my 12 years old boy to England in next year. And below are few choices. Can anyone please share and comment about the school quality (I have never been in England and plan to send him for boarding)

1) Caterham School
2) Queen College UK
3) Lord Wand worth school
4) Brentwood School
5) Ardingly college

各位,

看完這個forum, 有以下的少少補充:

Private schools 有分多種，傳統的private schools (歷史攸久、有頂級成績的私校)學校要考 (common entrance test)入學，而每一間的要求都唔一樣。通常平均分要65-70分。一定又要一科是外語，所以通常入得哩類學校的學生成績都理想的。其它私校，有錢就可以入讀。State grammar schools入學時以age 11+ test 入，而且只用英、數、科學和 IQ (或是叫邏輯) Papers。

傳統私校係應該好過State grammar schools。但可以留返係grammar schools讀A level 的學生絕大部份係叻學生。所以Grammar 跟Private (傳統)的成績應是差不多，但私校當然多些配套! 如果GCSE成績冇A*或A級都唔可以直接升讀該校(傳統私校/grammar schools) 的A Level。

只看GCSE排名唔係好實際，因為學校想拿高分，攪靚個排名，便會安排學生考容易取高分的科目(GCSE)。要睇埋學校A Level 的成積就比較準確。

如果在HK 考英國的state schools, 是不用付考試費的, 學校會比handling fees school agent.  但如果個別school agent 要收取其他費用就唔係好清楚。

就算考那個exam board都有分別，誰然大家都是GCE, edexcel是最易攞分，OCR難D , AXA是眾多GCE/GCSE board最深，但都不夠Cambridge Pre U深，一些進取的名校都轉考Cambridge Pre-U或AXA而捨棄Edexcel.

I am very lucky that I have relatives in UK.  I have a place to stay.  I can visit my son if necessary.

I understand that it is not true.  Only British/EU Passport holder may enter into the state boarding.  Once you have been admitted, you would be entitled to its free education except the boarding fee.

Hi veracmchan,

Happy to hear that your son enrolled The Royal Grammar.  Other than The Royal Grammar, does your son enrol any other schools?  As I want to take more info from parents, what kind of schools they would select.
My son successfully admitted to Sir Roger Manwood's School for 3013.  However, I postponed my plan to 2015, hence I rejected the offer.  From the school offering letter, they mentioned that my son's Maths and Science tests are fine, but for English is a bit weak.  I could imagine HK kids' English level are average low (compare with English kids), even though my son is studying in a band 1A school.

The boarding places for year 10 are very few for every school.

I think it is better to send your son in 2014 rather than in 2015.
