Hi, Ian,as far as i know, the no. of k1 classes of SH for the next academic ye ... (Just my personal sharing)
Hi andrewchiu,
Thanks for bringing up a question that would enlighten many parents while they consider the chance of admitting to related primary school.
The interesting fact about SHCK is that the registered number of classroom is 10. So, the 1 class was not exactly cut but simply they were promoted to the next year and still occupying that additional classroom only. Similarly, the registered number of classroom of the private primary section is 20.
For the ease of understanding, let me try to illustrate the situation below of the so-called 6-year cycle of SH kinder to private primary school:
2008/09 SHCK K1 8 classes --> promote to 2010/11 K3 --> SHCSPS 2011/12 P1 3 classes
(approx. 220+ girls for 110+ P1 seats) * The most difficult to manage year which happened last year
2009/10 SHCK K1 6 classes --> promote to 2011/12 K3 --> SHCSPS 2012/13 P1 3 classes
(approx. 170 girls for 110+ P1 seats)
2010/11 SHCK K1 6 classes --> promote to 2012/13 K3 --> SHCSPS 2013/14 P1 4 classes
(approx. 170 girls for 150+ P1 seats) * The easiest year to enter private primary school
2011/12 SHCK K1 8 classes --> promote to 2013/14 K3 --> SHCSPS 2014/15 P1 4 classes
(approx. 220+ girls for 150+ P1 seats)
2012/13 SHCK K1 6 classes --> promote to 2014/15 K3 --> SHCSPS 2015/16 P1 3 classes
(approx. 170 girls for 110+ P1 seats)
2013/14 SHCK K1 6 classes --> promote to 2015/16 K3 --> SHCSPS 2016/17 P1 3 classes
(approx. 170 girls for 110+ P1 seats)
then the same 6-year pattern will repeat.
e.g. the 2011 born girls will need to take note of:
2014/15 SHCK K1 8 classes --> promote to 2016/17 K3 --> SHCSPS 2017/18 P1 3 classes
(approx. 220+ girls for 110+ P1 seats) * The most difficult to manage year which happened last year
The above factual information are available thru www.chsc.hk and the school websites. There are no secrets but efforts are required to understand them.
Facts to note for the past 3 years was:
(1) Less than half of kindergarten students will choose to eventually return to private primary school;
(2) Approx. half of the gov't aided primary school students are from SHCK (around 70-80).
So to answer your question, it will depends on which year the girl will be entering the kindergarten to know the chance. Honestly, I have only seen parents give up waiting rather than a kid not being able to offer the seat.
I hope the above information are useful.
Similar situation arise for GH as the first year as their kindergarten re-open, with the great demand of K1 they have opened extra class for K1 while there were (if I remember correctly) 1 less class of K3. So, the P1 promotion last year was for 150 girls. For the current year, it is 180 girls and for the current K2 girls, there will be 210 girls.
GH has a much bigger private primary class structure with 5 classes each and their students per class are relatively higher. So, for the consideration of seats available, they would have over 200 seats in P1 each year and it would be no difficulty if the preferences are given to all own kindergarten students. For the year with the 7 classes of K1 which will be promoting to P1 in 2013/14 P1, the difficulty will increase compare to the two previous years.
