Believe your kid's school is teaching English by using Readers as my kid's school also, and they have to dictate the reader's vocabulary.  Words+sentences are subject to the standard/level of the readers.  Part B are from the reader: Dan, the flying man.  My kid also need to dictate the sentences as most of them appeared in the reader.  Yes, it's a bit harder, and we also have to separate the dictation into few parts and need a week for the review, that's why my kid always complaining how come he got dictation daily.  My kid is studying in Government primary school.
