I just received 英華書院 interview notice
today . What should I know about interview ?

Last year in the 1st interview, the school will have group interviews. I remembered it is about 5 kids in a group and there is 2 interviewers. On each desk, there is an English essay already put on the desk and the content is different. Each kid is asked to read it out. There is a group discussion on a certain topic and kids are asked to give their opinion.

應該不用見家長，而且信內只說過程大約10分鐘，相信是個很簡短的interview。是否所有2nd interview都安排在三月五號嗎？

舊年無, 2nd interview 完晒之後, 你可以打電話去學校問, 佢會答你既, 不過就算 fail 咗都唔洗唔開心, 因為最後都有機會收到電話被取錄, 因為大部份2nd interview既學生都會同時間報咗喇沙..DBS 等... 而有部份同時被 DBS 取錄既學生會放棄英華, 咁自然亦有部份位多出黎.

Miscual Chair - 我唔認同，如果真系 musical chair 都靠運氣，而家根本同運氣無關，　啲學校一早已經傾好晒要咩人，　例如幾多個田徑，幾多個ｍusical , 幾多個籃球精英等等．．．　跟本校隊，各項目老師已經在爭名額，由其好似協恩／英華/ＤＢＳ/ La Salle 呢類有小學直上個啲，無特易功能真系唔洗諗．

Yes, my son rec'd the said letter before and this should be a second interview for him.

The lady, Miss Wong asked my son just bring along with an self-addressed stamped envelope when she called me this morning.

Very painful as we still hope to attend interview with Wa Ying on 26 Mar. Hard to decide!

剛剛打電話去了英華問，他們會陸陸續續通知到4月初。我猜想3月11號以後學校從教統局拿到rank order, 然後通知30-40名排名靠前但又沒有得到第一批得到second interview的小朋友再次interview,如interview表現ok，就優先錄取，看來這學校還是蠻重視教統局的全港排名的。

You should be proud of him. If your son can win a seat out of 1000 candidates in YW, he must be a very smart kid and I'm sure that he will be welcomed by any elite school.

Had asked EDB before, they would not provide the rank order list to DSS schools. DSS schools select the student on their own.

Mr. Lee, the music teacher of YW, did say they had the rank order.

剛打電話問過英華，他們確實可以拿到所謂的rank order，當然可能EDB不會主動提供這資料給直資學校。而SPCC的招生規則裡也明確表明EDB 的rank order占25%比重，但從時間上判斷，SPCC挑選面試人選主要參考了5年級校內名次，因那時候還沒出 Rank order，所以，要想報考SPCC，5年級的成績至關重要。
總之，不經過親身的體驗，仔細得研究，你是不會徹底明白這套升中機制的。不由地慨歎：有必要將這規則搞得如此複雜嗎？

以我所知當直資學校或津貼學校收到報名表後會將名單send比EDB,然後EDB會將他們的全港掛名send比學校,唔會淨係比津校唔比直資的,不過各校看重多少,就看他們!

昨晚阿囝話他們上最後一節時,籃球場和足球場,都有小六生在選拔!

Yes, thank you. But these days I am puzzled by Ying Wa's admission policy. Why it does not send letters to all the parents about the result just like other DSS but instead, using the phone to confirm a no. of parents and push them to make decision within a week. What's the point ?

However, I am glad that I did not receive any phone call and be urged to make this hard decision. Just as a neighbour encouraged me today (she is a non-christian, studying bible in Bible Study Fellowship now), 'lift it to God, he has prepared everything for you.'

I feel the same too. I don't quite understand why the 2nd interview had to be divided into 2 batches?

各位:
我估可能電話的好處是有些家長可能巳經有offer(好似LS,DBS),立即拒絕,於是學校便可立即call其他家長,其實大家願唔願意接受,都想過的,只是仲想有更好的offer,但大家都好清楚要接受直資學位就要有取捨的,仲可換來7月前的擔驚受怕,如果deadline太遲,就不能趕得切交名單比EDB,對其他等緊個位的家長都唔係甘公平,所以電話太方便,都有好有唔好的!
不過這只是我個人的想法和理智的分析,並不是有什麼內幕!

I received their phone call today morning (actually I was having a lesson and I recognized it's Ying Wa's phone no. and I didn't receive the call but they eventually called my husband). They need us to reply on or before Thursday (why one day less ?)

I called one of my friends whose son is studying in YW. She broke a news to me which I mignt need to consider : The existing principal, who has been serving in YW over 8 years, had resigned two weeks before, they had already advertised to recruit a new one.

Anyone can tell more about it ?

我也是上星期阿囝口中知道,不過我認為英華有192年的歷史,很多的文化巳經建立了,換了校長,影響相信不會很大,李校長之前的楊寶筠校長也是一個很出息的校長,他退休時剛考英華搬校,大家也擔心過英華是否從此沒落,但現在也並不見得如此,李校長說他會到大學教書,但位置是誰仍未決定,不過大家知否LS,九華也是近年剛換了校長,HY校長也剛請辭,如果你的囝囡考到以上幾間學校,會因此而放棄嗎?
這也純粹是的個人的睇法!

I am still thinking about it. Actually, YW is near my home, the travelling time is less than half an hour. The school fee is not expensive and it is a well-established school with long history.

However, I hope to try Wa Ying (it is farther than YW, may be doubled travelling time), which is a co-ed and government subsidized school(honestly, it is my preference). But you know, it takes risk.

我並不能代表所有的家長,對學校的意見,我只能就我自己的睇法!
1.中學是有別於小學,對學生的照顧不會像小學一樣,所以不要期望學校有校車服務,留校午膳的安排,就算我囝校隊練習,比賽都是師兄facebook通知,唔會有通告.
2.男校會比較嘈,頑皮,但學校並沒有惡學生,師兄弟的關係是不錯的!
3.喜歡運動的男孩子一定會喜歡學校,因為有很多的球類比賽.
4.音樂也是他們的強項.
5.教學和功課量方面是ok的,我同事,朋友的囝分別讀九龍兩大名男校,比對下YW都算中庸之道!
6.學生大部分對學校感到自豪和歸屬感.

課程並不太深,我認為適中,需不需要補習都是好個人的,而中一分班試是用來分班的,A,B班是精英班!

學校的數學比賽都很強的,參加很多比賽都攞獎的,而且學校都有很多同學與你囝性格都相似,好似我囝佢話最近同個同學(讀書叻,性格算靜的)鬥快睇(10本一套)的課外英文書,然後找出線索,他日日同我講他們又找到什麼,什麼線索,他們又樂在其中,所以只要是他性格開朗,願意交朋友,一定會找到好朋友的!

我囝是英小升上書院的,而camry16618的囝囝今年F.1是考進來的!

5.教學和功課量方面是ok的,我同事,朋友的囝分別讀九龍兩大名男校,比對下YW都算中庸之道!

請問知否這兩大名校的程度(如課程、考試的深淺)和YW比較是否差別大呢？
