Agree! A letter is basic.  I state that I want to send my boy to school personally coz this is quality time of a working mother with my boy.  And also AM class fits into my boy's sleeping routine better, coz he is an early bird.  Honestly I think the school might not be bothered with your reasons.  They will just put you on the waiting queue for AM class after they receive your letter.  I am sure you are not alone and there are many others who will request for the switch to AM class.  Having said that, a sincere request letter always looks more positive.
