各位媽媽👩 我雖然收到通知話小朋友成功通過 Y8 assessment tests,但係冇firm offer。焦慮中, Y8 係咪就算考到都未必入到架？

唔知佢哋多唔多人走呢？

唔知㗎，因為Y8係插班，要等3月尾交了明年留位費，才知道有幾多位收人，有時冇人走都唔奇，所以pass了都未必入到，平常心。Y7 mass intake 30+個位個年係最易，之後D兄弟姐妹又會用sibling priority 插入其他年級。

原來Y8 咁棘手 ，我目測果日去assessments test Y8應該有大約70個小朋友。我哋又冇 priority咁真係好渺茫，心情更加忐忑

No, your son/daughter would be on Y8 waitlist, then if there weren't a place till November, they will send in an email to invite you to go for Y9 assessment,

You will still be on the waitlist for Y8 even after the school year starts, because there might be a leaver at any time of the year in IS.  If by 11/2024 there is still no vacancy in Y8, admission will invite you to go for Y9 assessment in 1/2025.

Application fee is$3700.Assessment fee is $4000?
School will charge again for second assessment.
Pretty expensive.

If your child passed but didn’t get a place, there is no need to pay the assessment fee again.If your child failed and take the re assessment two years later, then you need to pay again the assessment fee but not the registration fee since you have registered your child in the system for the first time.

咁講即係如plan 中學由local 轉國際就唔好等小學畢業，讀完本地p5 就過去升y7

yes, if you wait till primary graduation in local school, you will need to join in Y8, which is very difficult as there are only very limited vacancies.

如果可以當然Y7入最好，例如Y7係GSIS由K1-Y13咁多年最易入的一年，識好多人由幼稚園到小學一直考都fail/waiting, 到Y7就入到了, Y8要等人走才有位，因為剛剛Y7已收滿。

又過咗大半個月啦繼續苦候中，唔知有冇媽媽已經收到喜訊呢？好想向學校詢問一下自己在waiting list實在排第幾個，唔知校方會唔會告知我哋架呢？
有冇家長都有問過學校呢？

始終要等到三月尾，leavers通知學校，聽聞原來舊年Y8得一個插班位。

Yes you can ask them, I asked and they told me we are in the middle. They wouldn’t tell you the exact number but will let you know if you are at the top middle or bottom.

多謝你哋嘅回覆深感十級滿分難度高，唯有做足心理準備無緣 2024/2025 入Y8， 只求小朋友出年都可以順利Pass哂D入學試，再輪過2025/2026 Y9
唉！不過越高年級要求又會高D 。

謝謝回覆。咁我又請教下，如果未咁快升y7, 應該先由本地轉去一間易啲入嘅國際適應一段時間再轉，還是直接由本地轉去? (會唔會好似見工咁覺得too jumpy?) Provided that 英文本身fluent 但未夠native
嚟自邊間學校有分別嗎? 還是主要睇個人本身?

你應該在你自己小朋友角度稔，短期要佢轉來轉去好唔好？另外本身想本地定國際。

依家喺本地等我rephrase 一下個問題
就係g7以最好的幾間國際為目標
但擔心喺本地讀完五年級先，就變咗個人的mindset 越嚟越local，讀書方式亦好唔同
所以仲有些少時間，中間需要踏腳石，先拉近距離嗎

如果都唔喜歡本地的模式，當然早D轉好，將慳返來做功課準備考試的時間去social, 睇書運動玩音樂都更好。

My child graduated more than 4 years ago. I recalled in year 8, there were like 3-4 new students , out of total cohort size of around 60 kids. The graduation cohort was less than that.

好奇一問，其實而家好多expats都離開咗香港,應該少咗外國人讀,係咪比以前易啲入㗎？

One more thing, based on my observation, someone might be leaving in year 11 to go for sixth form in uk or US boarding school, quite a few of them left back then. But that could be too late to switch from local to international for the teens. They might treasure the friendships more

Covid時因為頂唔順quarantine多expats走，其實而家少咗
GSIS都起碼有兩個老師covid時走咗而家又返咗嚟

At least in business sectors, it is undeniable fact there are much less expats. So this should drive competition for international schools spaces less intense.

Are there more mainland families now?

Overall there are more international schools now and hence more vacancies. However there are more locals applying as well. Generally speaking if you have foreign passport it’s easy to get a spot but for locals, it’s still not as easy to get in your desired school due to more applicants.
There should be more mainland families now but the overall rate is 3% in GSIS (by passports). Actually there are more HK local families now, in the past it’s very hard for locals to get into kindergarten and lower primary so it might be good news for locals.

I think everything is set by now unless someone suddenly withdraw before summer. The last day of school is 20Jun.
If no news it means it’s still on waiting list.

終於都開咗學了，知道Y8都好似有幾個新生，不過admission一直都講冇人走，真係有D confused同埋完全掌握唔到自己嘅status 㖭
只係話只要有leaver，佢哋就會將有 priorities 同冇priorities 嘅candidates 一齊review 再make decision
