標題: Looking for suitable IS (Y9) [打印本頁]

Elder one (speaks and writes native Eng) is from local elite and the younger sibling is already in Renaissance. We plan to move the elder one to Renaissance too but finding the vibes there may not fit the character. What shall we do? Any other good options? Failed in GSIS assessment lately, now STC and CDNIS are on the list. If STC, we need to move to the catchment (current ESF catchment is KGV but not in consideration). We are a family of foreign passport holders. Thank you all for the advice.

I am curious about the “vibes” in Renaissance. Can you share more? I’m asking for a friend whose son is rather strong in academic, would like to consider RCHK Vs STC as year 7 options. Thanks!

There is nothing wrong with Renaissance as we love the school a lot and it fits my younger one perfectly. The school encourages creativity and self awareness. My younger one will stay there continuously.
Given that my elder one has been in the local system for a while, however, we prefer somewhere with a more rigorous culture and stronger academic atmosphere. That’s why we would like to consider elsewhere with greater suitability. Also think of Harrow and Kellet but we prefer IB curriculum.

If you are after sth more academic, perhaps you should consider schools other than ESF for your elder son.

I understand what you mean, you may consider ISF or CIS, may be more suitable for local students and less culture shock.

But why not considering KGV? It’s IB and exam results are great.

Thank you. Quite a few of my elder child’s classmates have moved to CIS each year. But I am also concern about the “socioeconomic context” at CIS as we are just an ordinary middle class family…this may cause some pressure on my child.

It’s a huge school with lots of resources. I am sure it is a good school with such a historical background and extensive alumni network. But I simply do not like the vibes there (sorry for being subjective).

Among ESF, STC got the most local Chinese and is most academic, if you still think it’s not suitable then probably ESF is not your cup of tea.
The other to consider are SIS, CDNIS which might be a good fit for you too. How about CAIS but I think they haven’t started IB yet?

The ratio of local Chinese does not bother me much. I also think about Island School, WIS and South Island but I don’t know too much about these schools.
Thanks for your time in writing back to me. I may reconsider CIS and look into it again.

IS, WIS and South Island are all similar to KGV. For SIS I mean Singapore IS. I feel that schools with more local Chinese will fit your elder daughter more so among ESF, STC should  be the best fit.

May I ask if you know anything about FIS Secondary? Long history and good IB grades. I heard they have a rigorous program in the primary section with quite a lot of work assigned.

This is a wonderful arrangement and training. We thought about boarding but may not be at this age (Y7-8). Thank you.

I don’t think you would like FIS, if KGV and RC are not your type.

Similar case as yours.  I am considering ICS.

My elder one transferred from a local elite secondary school to kgv Y9, he likes it a lot.
Then STC, CIS would fit your requirements.  My friend’s kid in HKIS mentioned that academic in y9 and above is much harder so you can think about it too.
